I read about Al Afalava's crashing his car into a bus shelter and destroying it and the police citing him for criminal mischief DUII and hit-and run.  He will be suspended for a minumum of 1 game.  My question to beaver fans is what do you think should be Mike Riley's policy for DUII's?  Do you think it should be a zero tolerance and anyone who is cited for DUII be kicked off the team?  If not, what do you believe is an acceptable punishment and why?

Cited?  No.  Guilty of after after due process of law?  Yes.

I met Al Afalava after the game at the Bowl breifly on the field, and he seemed very nice.  It is too bad that he has jeopardized his OSU football career by doing something so stupid.

I've said this before, these are kids we are talking about.  Kids are going to make mistakes and they need to learn from those mistakes.  If he was drinking and driving he needs to be treated like everyone else.  If you cut him slack, he will do it again, and maybe next time it will be a person he smashes, not a bus shelter.  Not only should Riley do something about it, the college and NCAA (so it's consistant across the country) need to start pulling scholarships and suspending players for illegal actions.

I agree with you.  While I don't condone getting drunk.  There is world of difference between getting drunk and driving while drunk.  While I would miss having such a talented player being on the team, my honest opinion is that anyone caught drinking and driving should have their scholarships pulled and be suspended from the team, indefinately.  I don't know specifically what Tavita did to get suspended for a year, but I suspect it had something to do with banned drugs such as steroids.  If that justifies a 1 year suspension, then drinking and driving definately should get the same or more.
