I think it might be too early to judge which team the deal favors. Personally I dont know enough about Sjostrom, Leneveu and all I know of Gratton is that he's a scraper. Hossa is a good player although he will never be half the player his brother is, and Montoya was supposed to be the Rangers future between the pipes however his dreams of that ever happening rested on injuries to both Lundqvist and Valiquette, and due to his poor play of late he has relinquished his starting job in Hartford. So an immediate answer to the poll would have me say that Phoenix got the better of the deal, but when when giving it a little thought, my vote would have to go to the Rangers.
Sjostrom should help the Rangers on the Powerplay, but i still thing this deal favors the Coyotes. The Rangers could have gotten a lot more out of this deal, namely Ed Jovanovski. Glen Sather is a Joke.
I think the it works out good for both teams even though Phonik gets a 1st rounder golie. I mean the rangers have Henrik and also they don't need a big time d guy because this what happened to the Rangers for 5 years and more before the Strike so they still should of put Malik in the deal. But thank god we got rid of Marcel Hossa because he sucks. But Montoya I hope he does good cause he got stuck behind a goo gloalie
I can't figure this one out. This was a trade just for the sake of making a trade. I can't figure out how we trade for a few 4th liners and Pitt gets Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupius for a 3rd line center, a 3rd line winger, a minor leaguer and a draft pick.... and the best we can do is Sjostrom..... a guy who will be up against Ryan Callahan for a 4th line spot. Sather is far from a genius !!!! I do kinda like that he picked up Backman for nothing, and I understand there are salary cap issues, but that wouldn't be an issue if he didn't overpay for Drury and Gomez. We could use a forward like Marian Hossa and this just makes Pittsburgh's offense into the NY Yankees of the NHL !!!!!
I think that for a goalie with a future as bright as Montoya's might be, they should have gotten more in this deal. The Rangers need a big defenseman that isn't afraid to hit people and someone to quarterback their power play. Glen Sather is OVERRATED!
Looks like Sather is still repaying favors owed to Wayne Gretzky. Don Maloney probably couldn't say yes fast enough. What does this trade accomplish? The player with the most upside in this trade is Montoya, even if he is slipping a bit lately. But if you can't sell him on his potential, don't get rid of him right now at all.
And what was the genius doing when Campbell got traded? Finishing up breakfast with the cell off? Buffalo gave him away for a player comparable to many players in the Rangers organization plus a pick. Sather couldn't top or equal that?
Then again maybe the real 'genius' Jimmy D decided today was "Bring someone less competent than you to work day" at MSG and the only one Sather could find was Isiah Thomas and let him make the deals....
I dont get it Slats, I just don't get it. We need a power play QB to win the cup. Roszival is out best threat back there, and, well, he doesnt scare anyone even though he has played admirably. You blew it.
Sjostrom is going to help on the powerplay? He is more of a speedy defensive forward than anything. He'll see virtually no powerplay time, unless some of the top forwards are injured. Hossa for Sjostrom is a wash, Leneveau will never be anything of real value, Montoya is the wild card in the deal. If he pans out, Phoenix "wins" the trade. If he doesn't, it's a trade of roster filler for roster filler.
