Montreal trades G Cristobal Huet to Washington for a second-round pick in 2009.

Which team does this deal favor?

GMGM, I love you man. We've been needing another goalie for a couple of years. And it really shows this season.  I can't believe you fleeced the Habs for only a 2nd rounder (which you got for Brian Sutherby from Anaheim).  That's awesome.

Thank you thank you thank you. Now, go and sign Huet before July 1.

I know Carey Price is the real deal, but Huet has successfully outplayed him all season.  I can not believe a quality goalie like Huet was available for a second round pick.

Huet and his agent must have been asking for a ton of money that Montreal was not going to pay and figured a second round pick was better than a playoff run this year and losing him without compensation.

Washington should play him right away and ride him into the first round of the playoffs.

No question this is a steal for the Caps.  George McPhee should be commended on the moves he made today.  The only NHL level player that he gave up is a mediocre 3rd liner in Pettinger.  And he brings an experienced Goalie, a solid play-making Center, and a character 3rd line energy player.

Great day to be a Caps fan.

Ugh...I'm not sure about this one Mr. Gainey but your the GM and not me so I support your decision (Huet was an expiring contract anyway so I don't see the point of trading him for a 2nd round pick though).

What are the Habs thinking? Trading your starting goalie while your fighting for first place in the confernce. I know that Price is good and all but you really think you can win a cup with him this year? Only a 2 rounder for Huet? Bad Bad by the Habs!! As a Bruins fan though I LOVE THIS TRADE. Screw Montreal.

As a Caps fan I am really excited about this trade and can't wait to see Huet play for us. I don't know why Montreal gave him up for just a second rounder, makes me wonder if it's just be a rental deal and if he'll return to the Habs once his contract has expired.

This trade is about as even as it gets if you're a habs fan.  Huet is a streaky goalie who is on the downside right now after giving up a ton of goals his past 2 games.  A 2nd round pick for him is a great deal since he wasn't going to stay in Montreal after the season.  Carey Price just has to make sure he plays the same way he did towards his Calder Cup winning ways of last season to hold onto the job.

For Washington, this is the best thing for them...for this season.  Huet can win them some games and help propel them into the playoffs.  That being said, if he resigns with the Caps, he will be the next aging goalie in their now long history of aging goalies.  The last time I remember them having a "young" goalie was when they gave another player named Carey a starting job.

This trade favors the Canadiens, because they drop some of the baggage for a high draft pick.

Good trade for the Capitals. Ollie no doubt is like the number on his back which is old. I can'r see the Caps resigning Ollie after this year. with Huet they get a young goalie with a good future. So where does that leave Brent Johnson? Do they send him to Hershey to get some playing time? He sure does need to play to get all the rust off. If they Caps like Brent that much it will be only as a back up.

I was hoping this trade would free up some cap room for the Habs to sign Hossa, Tanguay, Richards, Boyle...SOMEONE! instead they don't do a thing...and that is why they will unfortunately not make it far in the playoffs....banking on a rookie goalie in the spring season is a bold move....will it pay off?

While you are correct about ollie;s age, huet is not that young....33 in the NHL is not young anymore...you are a veteran goalie by that age....but correct, Washington definitely came out on top in this one.....
