Pitt released their 2008 football schedule today and it goes as follows:

Aug 30 vs. Bowling Green
Sept 6 vs. Buffalo
Sept 20 vs. Iowa
Sept 27 at Syracuse
Oct 2 at USF (Thursday)
Oct 18 at Navy
Oct 25 vs. Rutgers
Nov 1 at NOTRE DAME (2:30 scheduled kickoff)
Nov 8 vs. Louisville
Nov 22 at Cincinnati
Nov 28 vs. WEST VIRGINIA (Friday)
Dec 6 at Connecticut

Pretty balanced scheduled I think, with six home and six away games. I'm kinda disappointed we end the season with Connecticut and not West Virginia, even though it is the day after Thanksgiving. They did play two years in a row on Turkey Day which I thought was a pretty cool thing to do. I think we should try to make that a tradition and either have the WVU around Thanksgiving or have it as the last game of the season, since they are easily our biggest rival. Just my thoughts.

HAIL TO PITT

The thing is NCAA now plays 12 games, so one game is going to be early (last week of Aug) and/or late (first week of Dec) in the season. I think the archrival should be last of the season, but at least WVU is the last home game

I REALLY like this schedule. Of the 6 home games, at least 4 of them are legitimate games (Iowa, Rutgers, Louisville, and WVU). Bowling Green and Buffalo are not really hot tickets, but at least we aren't playing 1-AA teams (or whatever they are called nowadays).

Really, a vast majority of these games will be competitive, and with the promise this team is showing I think our guys should go into EVERY game with the confidence that they can win. We should also have a good amount of games on national -or at least regional - TV (Notre Dame, USF, and WVU will almost undoubtedly be televised nationally, and depending on the success of our team and opponents many more could follow).

I still think it is too early to make predictions on our overall records, but I am very optimistic about this coming football season...is it August yet???

The middle part of the schedule is weird. Pitt will be on the road for the majority of the month of October. It is a long wait from Sept 20th to Oct 25th. They need to get Buffalo out of there and play Penn State. But that will not happen as long as JoePa is in charge.

I have been one of the few here who have always supported Wannstedt, but anything less than 9-3 from this schedule would be a disappointment....Every single game is winnable, but we don't know if this team has "it" yet.    I think we will have AT LEAST as much talent as our opponent in every game......Let's see if it translates to wins!

HAIL TO PITT!!!!!!

the back yard brawl is always the last game of the season, why did they schedule unconn as the last game?

The Brawl isn't last anymore because the schedule is now 12 games long, and the Brawl is played around Thanksgiving. (It was supposed to become a Thanksgiving Tradition but the NFL got Greedy and added a third game that day.)

I like this schedule quite a bit.

I think we could win 7 or 8 games.

The toughest game will probably be the road game at South Florida - almost all of their key players return from last year's 9 - 4 team.   I'm thinking Pitt finishes 8 - 4 or 9 - 3 behind the running of Slim Shady.

Actually they lose a ton, at least defensively.  Losing Moffitt and those two corners is sure to be a bigtime detriment to the defense.  Still, that offense is again going to be solid.

This is a pretty soft non-conference schedule.  Unless ND does an amazing turn around.  And I think the conference will be a lot weaker this year unless Louisville and Rutgers do a great rebuilding job.

Looks like Pitt can rack up a good win/loss record and pretend its way into a major bowl.  Maybe even win the conference if WVU falters under new coaching staff.
