I've personally always wanted Clemson to schedule more out-of-conference games against good teams. In that regard, I've always thought it was a shame that Clemson has to play its traditional in-state rival, SoCar every year. The series is pathetically lopsided in Clemson's favor. And since SoCar is typically weak, a Clemson victory usually does little to help Clemson's ranking. Wheras a loss hurts Clemson because it usually means losing to a lower ranked team. For that reason, even though I'm a Clemson grad and a die-hard Clemson fan, believe it or not, I root for SoCar every game EXCEPT the Clemson game. I'd much rather see Clemson beat a good SoCar team than a weak one.
This coming season Clemson will play 2 SEC teams (Alabama and SoCar). And Clemson just announced that for 7 years (from 2010 -2016) Clemson will play at least 2 SEC teams each year. Clemson will play 3 SEC teams in 2013. Clemson will meet Auburn in 2010 and 2011, Vanderbilt in 2012 and 2013, Georgia in 2013 and 2014 and Mississippi in 2015 and 2016. Of course, Clemson will play SoCar in each of these years as well. Apparently Clemson's AD isn't scared of the SEC. I'll look forward to those games. Let's meet back here in 2017 to see how it went.
I find it strange that someone would brag about being middle of the pack in a tough conference. What does that translate to? Being above average in a weak conference? Clemson has been above average in the supposedly weak ACC, and yet Clemson regularly beats SoCar. So I just don't see how one can take much pride in being mediocre in a good conference.
I doubt that Clemson can run the table this season, let alone get a shot at the national title game. But if they do, I can think of no better way to induce a playoff system.

...and win a couple of games in Columbia in their 4 years at a real football school
.583 in the Mighty ACC
Keep on keepin' it real up there.
The ACC is just chalk full of football rich tradition, what with NCST, UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Virginia. Traditionally, the ACC does have FSU, Miami, and Virginia Tech, though the latter is still a relative new comer to national prominence status, and the former two are in the crapper as of late. And then there's Clemson and Boston College. Not great, not consistantly good on a national level, but average. Your conference is still weak overall when it comes to football. And when you take into consideration that two of your three great teams have tanked as of late, it's just about pathetic at the moment. That's why you AD needed to step up and schedule a real team, especially since you already had one lower division team on the docket and seven home games.
And don't try and tell me it couldn't have been done, that everybody else already had their schedules made up. Just last week teams were rescheduling games and opponents for this upcoming season. At the FBS level.

It's CHOCK full, not chalk, and Ga Tech has a NatChampship in the last two decades. Team ExtraCrispy has exactly zero since it started playing football in the 19th century.
That the schedule is weak this year i cannot argue. Our 2 non-Div 1 games, and two SEC grundles make it look simple, but we'll take it and keep winning at Clemson and the fans of Coot U. can keep whining on about how unfair our schedule is and how difficult the SEC is and blahhhhh blah lah lah blahh... Its music to a tigerfan's ears although it is a bit of a broken record what with the "wait'll next year" blow we always hear about. They were probably saying that at the turn of the last century ,too.....

whining on about how unfair our schedule is
I've only pointed out how crappy your schedule is. I'm sorry you're so ashamed of it.
But see, you upstate fans think you have a "real" football program, dominating even on the national level. But the reality is you're average. You basically admitted the ACC is as poor in football as I've claimed them to be. If that claim is true, and it is, what does being .583 in the ACC say about your team? Through your purple lens, obviously less than 60% in a mediocre league puts you right up there with the nation's elite.
Hey, we're below average. I've said it before, and I'll say again at some point in the future. Unlike upstate fans, I don't view my team through a filtered lens. But that doesn't mean I don't want my team to get better. You're problem isn't that you're only slightly better than USC. No, you're problem is that you're satisfied with where you're at.
And don't try and sell Ga Tech as an elite program; it just makes you look silly.
PS You're avatar has that look on his face that Spiller gets whenever a defender gets within ten yards. Better start looking for the sideline, dude.

What is with the "upstate fans" stuff. Look around tool, There are Paws everywhere. I live in Columbia, but i grew up in Charleston. Clemson fans are everywhere, which is why we get better bowl games than we probably deserve, because we stick together and travel well.
Nobody said ELITE when talking about Ga Tech, I hate them just a smidgen less than i hate the Cocks . What i said was that they had a football national championship in the modern era' as we do. In fact , the SEC has only one more team with a national title since 1980 than we do(uga,uf,lsu,tenn,bama/ gtech, clemson, fla st,miami) these are of course the teams that are now in the ACC and yes i realize that UMiami was a big east team in 2001. I'm just wondering how it is that such a well heeled and dominant league as the SEC ,which hypes itself as the best football league in CFB is still on par with the ACC in titles since 1980?
And as for knocking ANY of our running backs, well that just shows that you are as knowledgable about college football as Steven Garcia is about proper adult behavior. Were you talking about C.J.Spiller, the guy who went for 156 on that piss ant defense of yours in 06' or were you talking about the dude who made a pretty touted defense from Auburn look like pee wee players chasing a cheetah in the Peach Bowl?True,we lost both games ,but the performance he put on was worth the price of admission. You really should change your avatar, it looks like a bunch of faggoty frizzle-fried frat boys getting ready to sexually assault some typically homely Carolina co-ed.

I wouldn't really say that it is just fans in the upsatate that say that Clemson is above average. I believe that it is Clemson was ranked in the final 2007 poll. I am also sure that Clemson will be ranked in the preseason poll as well. So I guess that there are other people that view Clemson as above average. The recruiting the past two years has been really good. Three years ago it was pretty good. We are getting better and better recruits. We have definitely been improving. Yes the past two years we should have been in the ACCCG but blew it. The great recruits are getting more and more experience and very soon (most likely this year) Clemson will at least make it to the game and make it through to a BCS game.
There is also something that I don't understand. What do Carolina fans mean when you say that we as fans are satisfied with where we are at? Or what does it mean that we only care about beating Carolina? Yes we care about beating them, we care about beating everyone.
That avatar actually looks like the other Davis while trying to block in the punt formation. I'm much happier with our backfield than if they were switched.

Y'all are funny.
Your school is located in the upstate, ergo you're fans of an upstate school, ergo you're upstate fans.
Yeah, we don't look like much, but we are the kickball league champions of columbia.
