Well, I made predictions before last season, and just about everything I predicted about the other teams came to fruition.  But nothing I predicted about us did.

Looking at the schedule and who the competition is, we could very easily begin the season 6-1 again.  At this point, Georgia is almost a sure loss.  Mark Richt could try and screw it up the way he has the last 3 or 4 times he's come to Columbia, and play extremely conservative giving us a chance to win.  Or he could finally let his team loose and rip the crap out of his.  Totally Richt's call.

NCST, Vandy, Wofford, UAB and Ole Miss are all who we think they are, and shouldn't be a problem beating (I use the word "shouldn't" as obviously we lost to Vandy this past season).  Kentucky lost all a ton of senior leadership, and will be taking a step back next season.

So, that sets up for the potential 6-1 start, simply waiting for our team and coach to grab it.  As for the remaining five, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Clemson will all be beatable.  In fact, if we do sport something of a decent team this year, we should have no problem beating depleted Tennessee and Arkansas teams at home.  I'd give more respect to Clemson if they had a better coach.  The athletes and facilities (Tommy's big excuses his first nine seasons) are there.

So, that gets us to 9-1.  LSU lost a lot on defense, their offense is in turmoil with the suspension of Ryan Pirreleaux, and we get them at home.  I'm not predicting a win, just saying they will be beatable by decent teams.

As much as I hate to admit it (for I absolutely detest Urban Meyer), Florida is going to have a pretty dang good team next season, so go ahead and throw that one in the loss column.

That's my breakdown, but this is all I'm willing to predict: Georgia - Loss, Wofford - Win, UAB - Win, Florida - Loss.  2-2 is all I'm willing to predict before the season.

i saw predicted us going 9-3 last season and look what happened. so i won't predict our record but i agree w/ USC_Cocks 100%. Clemson will have a good team this year, but if we play hard enough we can beat them.

i really cant handle another bad season so im hoping we keep our guys healthy and out of trouble. sure doesn't look like we can keep our guys out of jail =/

i hear what you all are saying, but put down the subjectivity for a second and consider this.

you do not have a quarterback
oline still a major issue
can not stop the run

im seeing a 7-5, but i would not be shocked with another .500 season

georgia, lsu, tennessee, @clemson, @florida  -->   LOSSES
uab, wofford, arkansas, @olemiss -->   WINS
@vandy, @kentucky, ncsu -  SHOULD WIN

you do not have a quarterback

A certain team in the upstate didn't have a quarterback entering last season.  Except for failing to win the big games, they turned out alright.  We do have a qb with starting experience, unlike y'all did last year.

oline still a major issue

I know.  Been an issue for three straight years, but it's obviously not a coaching issue, as Spurrier didn't see the need to make a change there (end sarcasm).

can not stop the run

I've seen teams with lesser athletes be able to at least slow down the run.  I'd like to believe last season's run issues were coaching related.  Maybe it was a combination of the o-line stinking so bad that the d-line was never able to practice.  At any rate, new experienced defensive coach, new defensive scheme, the return of Jasper, and the maturation of several true freshman/rising sophomores should go a long way to shoring up the run defense.

I'm not holding my breath; not predicting anything; just saying you'd be stupid to count us out before the first game is even played.  We're an unknown entering '08.  Nobody, including Spurrier, I think knows what to expect.  But a third place finish in the East with a decent bowl game is probably going to be the order of the day.  That, and a close, down to the wire, team with the ball last wins contest with that team from the upstate.

I will hand it to you upstate fans, at least you know what to expect from your team.  A hot start, an inexplicable loss to a lesser team, a close battle but loss to the division leader, and a trip to Atlanta for some peaches.  If only that WestZone project had been started when Tommy first requested it.  Could've changed the whole season.

PS  How is it that you feel you can predict wins and losses, when you don't even keep up with the fact that Tennessee lost their starting quarterback and offensive coordinator savior?  More than likely, Tennessee is going to struggle to become bowl eligible.  At the very least, they don't get the benefit of the doubt of being one of our sure losses.

I see you guys winning one of alloranges losses and losing one of the should wins but i think that 7-5 is a realistic mark

Well, if that team from the upstate were to play a Div I-A schedule versus a Div I-AA schedule, they'd be looking at 7-5 as well.  Go have fun beating SC State, The Citadel, Duke, NCST, Wake Forest, etc.

Face it, your conference sucks (and you still can't win it, but that's another story).  But in classic Clemson ideology, you make up for your conference sucking by scheduling not one, but two FCS teams.

Y'all better hope and pray we finish 9-3, so that you'll have at least one top 25 team on your schedule.  Everybody else on it is bottom 40 and below.  Of course, if we finish 9-3, I can guarantee who one of our losses won't be to.

Ok first of all as history goes yall lose 2 out of 3 to us so i would almost gaurantee the shamecocks losing to clemson on what seems to be and up year for the tigers. Number two we have 2 sec teams on our out of conference schedule and seeing as how the sec is supposed to be the almighty conference of college football and rightfully is i think that makes up for the fact that we had to schedule the lower division foes to complete our schedule. Thirdly you guys played sc state last year and i think nc. state this year nice scheduling buddy. Number four we will have 2 or 3 top 25 on the schedule i think after its said and done alabama, florida state, and wake forest should all be top 25 contenders. So get your facts straight not saying you are an alumn or not but if you are i can see how you are confused.

This how see the gamecocks for 2008(9-3) possible(10-3).  I see them winning their first three basicially because they home, except for Vandy, but that win wont happen this year from Vandy.  They will beat Georgia, because off of rust.  Early in the year is the best to catch Georgia, sometimes start off slow.  They should go undefeated until they meet up with LSU,  I think they can pull it off because they home, Tennessee still have no answer at the QB position and they OFF Coach left them, Arkansas wi;; probably play them better then anybody else because of their head coach and good quarterback that just left Michigan.  I think they will lose their last two games.  Florida just have too much for everybody in the College football, eventually they should win the National Championship.  Clemson will beat them because off their running back, but South Carolina can upset them because of rival.

Projection

 NC State(35-14) Vandy(31-7) Georgia(21-18) Wofford(56-7) UAB(38-14) Ole Miss(31-19) Kentucky(38-20) LSU(34-31) Tenn(28-24) Arkansas(42-35) Florida(17-31) Clemson(17-28)

My record depends how the quarterback will be played and at running back.  I not worried about the WR and the offense line, we finally got that straight.  The defense should be one of the best in the Nation, especially at the DBs postion.  They have more dept their so it should be able to defend passes when then runn is working for the other team.  They return all their starters on defense, except Casper Brinkley.  If the Lindsey Twins can play this year that add more dept, that give really 13 defense players with great experience.

yeah Clemson plays 2 SEC teams; Alabama, and Carolina. but that doesnt make up the face that Clemson plays teams like Duke and North Carolina year after year. my high school team could beat most of the teams y'all play every year.

im sorry but theres no excuse why y'all cant win the ACC. come to the SEC and see what happens. 7-5 year after year or worse.

Hey, I'm willing to go on record as saying FBS schools should not be scheduling FCS schools.  Period.  What's the point?  Nobody watches these games, they are of no help, and they mean absolutey crap.

But you guys didn't just schedule one FCS school.  You scheduled two.  Grow some balls and play a real school.

Ooooh, you play two SEC schools.  Well, one of them you're forced to play every year.  So the one "tough" opponent that you guys actually chose to play is a school that hasn't been good in almost a decade.  Yeah, you guys are fearsome.

Wake Forest and FSU are going to be top 25 teams?  Are you kidding?  Somehow betting on Wake Forest to hold up the image of the ACC sounds a lot like hoping USC would be the torch bearer for the SEC next season.  And when was the last time FSU finished the year in the top 25?   They're washed up and a has been, stuck in a cheating scandal that's already wrecked what would've been another mediocre season.

As a fan, I would be upset if my team had chosen to play a bunch of nobodies.  But Clemson fans are elated.  Hey, if Hawai'i made it to a BCS game playing a bunch of nobodies, why not Clemson?
