Here it is, last chance for the quarterbacks up for the NFL draft to impress the scouts. Which quarterback or quarterbacks do you think will make the best showing at this year's combine and why?
Do you want to mention someone not on the list? Please go right ahead. Do you feel that there is someone that does not deserve to be in this poll? Please, express your opinion. Matt Ryan is the front runner, and Brian Brohm still has an injured ankle. Joe Flacco, Chad Henne, and John D. Booty all had good showings at the Senior Bowl. Colt Brennan and Andre Woodson struggled in the same game but still may end up high on someone's list. All QB's have the height, winning records, and the arms to get drafted. Do they have the Right Stuff to make it in the NFL?

Look for Woodson, Chad Henne and David Bootie to lay it on the line in hopes of getting drafted in the 1st round... Brohm and Ryan are locked in the 1st Round already.
Outside of those 5 QBs, I think everyone else - Ainge, Flacco and Brennan - will fall to the 4th round or lower.
Too much defensive talent in the draft to pass over for a questionable QB in rounds 2-3-4. Defense wins championships.

Matt Ryan has the most to gain and lose; I look for him to go all out. I voted him to have the best outing based on what I saw from him in 3 of his last 4 games. In retrospect it was smart for him to sit out the Senior Bowl.
B. Brohm needs to heal his bum ankle and stay healthy or he will drop come combine time. No scout will keep him high if Brohm cannot stay healthy in this time off.
Booty and Henne, if they have strong showings they will move up, and their draft status will too.
Colt Brennan can move up if he has a great combine but I look for Flacco to overshadow Colt and a few others with his arm strength and speed. Flacco is the darkhorse of the QBs this year coming out of Delaware with his arm, being 6' 6'' and 238 lbs.
I have still not seen A. Woodson except for his poor performance at the Senior Bowl and I think that he will have to stand out in the combine to move up, maybe he has impressed some scout that has his eye on him but I have yet to see it or hear it. AInge is a little better but he will be about the same in the combine as Woodson based on the latest game result. The bottom four still need a lot of work and patience. I have no idea where any of them will be drafted; I do believe that come draft day some teams will take QBs in the first round and the drafting of QBs will be based on combine performance as the biggest key.
I will not be surprised if the 1st and 2nd round is dominated by defensive players this year. Today, right now I'm expecting defensive players to push most of this class of QBs to the 2nd and lower rounds.
There were some defensive players that showed off how good they were yesterday. Cromartie from TennState had an awesome game as did that d-player from USC #49 whodaguy Ellis, S., then Jackson, Jones, & Laws. If I am drafting, I'll go with the best lineman and defenders first. I like the bluecollar trenchmen that do the blocking & tackling.
I'll be watching what I can catch of the combine.

Colt Brennan has to make a good showing now, he has the most to lose if he goes in a later round. It is true, where you are drafted determines how much money your contract is. I think that he will show what he learned in the run and shoot.

I voted for Matt Ryan because the poll was who I thought would have the best showing at the combine, hands down it has to be Matt Ryan. He is the best QB in this class. Now for the one who NEEDS to have the best showing, has to be Colt Brennan. The Sugar Bowl hurt his draft stock some, but his lack of an O-Line made up for a lot of it. However, in the Senior Bowl, when he had an "all star" senior O-Line, he showed that he still couldn't hack it. In my opinion he needs to look outstanding at the combine to even get drafted, he's solidified himself as a very late pick as it already is. Personally, I don't think he has the arm or the toughness to make it in the NFL, at least not as a starter anyway. But, I don't make the draft picks so I could be wrong. My list of QB's in draft order:
1) Matt Ryan
2) Brian Brohm (tied for 2nd... depends on ankle injury/combine)
2) John Flacco (tied for 2nd... depends on the combine)
4) Erik Ainge
5) John David Booty
6) Andre Woodson
7) Chad Henne
8) Colt Brennan (still, might not get drafted)

UGAFan618, I'll agree with your top three. I too think that Ryan is the 1st QB taken in this draft. What I do not understand is why you have Ainge ahead of Booty, is this because he is taller or form an SEC School? Booty has won a lot of big games and the games SC lost this year he did not play, broken finger. Henne looked better in his final bowl game & in the Senior Bowl than Ainge except for that one final drive.
True I agree that Colt has fallen off quite a bit and he may not get drafted to the dismay of UH fans; unfortunately he may not have the arm that people thought he had compared to the other QBs in the draft. I like that you moved Flacco up high, Flacco may burn some impressions into the scouts during this combine.
Brohm needs to get healthy quick to show that he can be the 2nd QB taken, I am not sure about taking him second even when healthy.
If most people have Booty at five or lower he may be underrated and one of the best late picks in the draft.

haha no it's not because Ainge is from an SEC school or is taller than Booty... I for one just see Ainge as an overall better QB. I know Booty played at USC and played pretty well considering he followed Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart, but injury or no injury, I still believe Erik Ainge, from what I've seen on the field against the opponents he has gone up against, handles himself just a little differently... especially these last two years. Now I'm not saying that Booty isn't a good QB, he is a very good QB. As far as my list goes, I just think Ainge will get drafted before Booty, but I could be wrong. It'll be sad/slightly funny though if every QB except Colt Brennan gets drafted somewhere.

So "UGA fan" doesn't have any real reason why he doesn't think Colt will get drafted, that's basically what he's saying.
And don't say the senior bowl, Colt had a decent showing in the senior bowl. What did he play, half a quarter? I'll tell you, the offensive line didn't do very good in giving him many opportunities to show his stuff. Same w/Woodson....then they made some 2nd half adjustments and Ainge was able to shine fairly easy, although I have to say, he made some pretty bad looking passes near the end.
Colt won't go any later than the 4th round, but I fully expect him to be taken earlier than that. You don't set the record for all-time touchdowns, be a heisman finalist and end up undrafted. Are you sure you're a football fan? Cuz you seem somewhat uninformed.

letsgobows, if Colt does go by the 4th round or sooner he will be in some decent money. I believe that he has to turn some heads at the combine or there is a good chance he will go in a later round or not at all. It has been a strategy for many teams to not draft a player that they want or are interested in that is on the board in the late rounds and then invite them to camp later for a tryout.
This way they get the player to come into camp without a contract. It would not be a big deal if a lot of teams pass on Colt while they can fill other more pressing needs and then pick him up for a song and dance by an invite. He has a good chance to get on with a number of teams or he may decide that being a 3rd stringer is not worth it and head North of the border for a year or two. He needs to put on weight and muscle, 186 is too light. If he can show up at the combine with more weight, and not lose any speed this will be to his benefit. Right now he has to go in ready to impress.

Letsgobows,
Don't get your panties all in a wad because Georgia smacked Hawaii's ass in the Sugar Bowl and now Brennan isn't looked quite as highly upon as he once was. Now actually I do have real reasons, shall I name them?
YES, the Senior Bowl is a reason. He played in the 1st half and got picked off. He did better in the 2nd half considering he didn't get picked off. However, the defensive schemes in that game were so simple no QB should have panicked like he did... he couldn't make the proper reads, NOR could he through the ball effectively down field. When he tried to throw the ball down field the pass sailed. He throws with that awkward sidearm throw of his and doesn't have the arm strength to cut it in the NFL.
I know his O-Line didn't block worth a damn in the Sugar Bowl but to me, and many others, given he was hit, he still didn't show the toughness it takes to make it in the NFL.
I respect the fact that Hawaii is your team and apparently CB could do no wrong while he was down there, but the fact is he really isn't that great of a quarterback. Remember, Timmy Chang put up great numbers too. Really points towards the word: System. Sorry your bubble has been burst, but that's how it is. If Colt Brennan gets drafted, I will be very surprised to say the least. And even if he does, somehow I doubt we'll ever see him on the field. Remember the all time wins leader, David Greene? Yes, he went to Georgia and was very successful, but do you see him on the field? No, it's because of his arm strength.
So this isn't a Georgia vs Hawaii thing, it's a reality thing.

Are you sure you're a football fan? Cuz you seem somewhat uninformed. bows, do you even want to start the heisman conversation? i seem to remember many recent heisman winning qbs that absolutely tanked or are tanking in the big league. oh but since colt is a heisman finalist that is a totally different story.... the scouts will ignore the fact that he is too small, has poor mechanics, tanks on the national stage, and put up atronomical numbers by playing the "system" against wac defences. this is actually coming from a guy who likes colt brennan and wants him to become a starter in the nfl, but lets look at the reality of things.

Just curious nonbcs, are you British? I notice you spell defense with a "c". This being a sports forum I seem to recall your spelling of this the same way in other posts.
BTW Booga, I've refrained from voting and posting in this thread 'til now because I didn't get to see the Senior Bowl, or the accompanying associated activities. Too lazy to look them up too.

So far none of the quarterbacks in this year's class has impressed me that much in terms of being top notch pro prospects. They all have positive attributes that show signs that they may become good NFL QB's but there isn't any one guy that stands out, like Peyton Manning for example, that everyone thinks is a lock to be a superstar. As for Brennan, as much a I like the guy for what he has done at UH, his last 2 national appearances have left a lot of questions. Picking a QB is such an inexact science that it's basically a crap shoot. How many "can't miss" prospects over the years have fallen completely flat and are out of the league 3 or 4 years later (Leaf, Akili Smith and Heath Shuler are the first that come to mind). Then you have the guys that come out of no where that end up being superstars (Brady) or serviceable starters (Garcia, Romo). It's always fun to speculate because it sparks good debate. As for reality, my guess is if we each pick from this year's class who we think will have the best career, 75 to 90% of us will be wrong.

czt1dave, Colt did not do well, as you now know he had an int and a sack, both were bad. He did not do much for the South or show much of himself. He had three passes that were lame ducks that did not go anywhere near the receivers. He was tapping the ball and not getting it out fast...... hence the term 'burping the baby'.
Based on what Colt has shown and done the last month I want to know what the fans are thinking that voted Colt #1 on this poll to do well in the upcoming combine.
What are Colts plans for training before the combine?
Time is running out and he will be put through the drills again & again. The competition is gearing up and it looks like the standards will be higher at the combine.
I've watched the combines on NFL Channel before, they will work the snot out of anyone; there is no substitute for speed and strength, any short comings will be magnified here.
