Happy New Years to you all. 2008-09 football Season is a few months away.

Top News:

QB Ricky Dobbs has decided to stay Navy even though Paul Johnson left for Ga. Tech.

The only way to keep Dobbs on the roster next season and for his Junior year he must get some playing time.

Here are possoble senerios:

1.) Ricky Dobbs sits on the bench as the 3rd string QB and transfers before the end of the year due to Navy commitment.

2.) Move Jarod Bryant to slot back and then that would make Ricky Dobbs the 2nd string QB.

3.) Ricky Dobbs stay reguardless of what happens....which we Navy fans are hoping.

Looking at the roster, Navt future at QB lies with QB Ricky Dobbs

Who is Ricky dobbs? I would rather have Bryant at QB next year that kaipo. Byrant is just as fast and a much much better passer than kaipo. Ricky dobbs can wait his turn like everyone else or leave

"Who is Ricky dobbs?"   You either live under a rock or are a very new Navy fan.  (Welcome aboard!)

Agreed that Dobbs should see as many snaps as possible next year; not for the sake of his ego but to get him ready, since it seems a foregone conclusion that he will start the Hawaii game to open the 2009 season.  Yeah, yeah, it's too early to predict what will happen in 2009, but most reports have this guy as one of the better QBs since the Class of '65 graduated and maybe the best dual threat guy since then.

He has talent, but he needs to learn the offense and take snaps.  The learning curve is huge, and the ability to read defenses and make the right pre-snap and post-snap decisions makes a huge difference.  The fact that Kaipo had familiarity with this offense gave him the leg up on Bryant (who is a terrific athlete) when Hampton got injured against Rutgers in '06

I'm not worried about Dobbs leaving.  According to Bill Wagner's Sports Blog, Dobbs thought about leaving when Johnson left (Dobbs grew up 15 min from Ga. Tech), but decided that he belongs at Navy.  He's done his soul searching.  He knows that he's the man in 2009.  He'll stay.

So, how does he get snaps and experience necessary to start in '09?  Simple, he has got to get in whenever Navy goes up by two TD's in the 2nd half.  Hopefully this will happen a few times in '08.  Bryant should get snaps to spell Kaipo when its close or if/when Kaipo gets hurt.  (Gawd forbid.)  KN should also consider using Bryant as a slot, since he has the talent.
