He's a big man with a big shot. He's got to step and take his place amongst the Blackhawks greats. He covers well, he skates well, and he can take the body with the best of them.
NOT!
He's an underachiever! Again! He's a big man and with his size and with the way things are currently going with the the Hawks, he's the man who should be taking over this team. If not, the boss' have to make a move and get someone to compliment him.
GO Hawks.

HE IS EXCEDING MANAGEMENTS EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS SEASON BY A MILE. He has been playing forward and defense. On D he is being paired with the 4th or 5th D and still holding his own. This kid is an unrestricted free agent and due a huge raise. If he would get invited to the All-star games hardest shot competition he would win it easy. His improvement over the last two years is incredible.

he is an underachiever and that is all he will ever be but with a hard shot. he is not a difference maker and not a top 4 d-man. he maybe a fourth line winger but that is it. he does not take the body and does not intimidate anyone in the league

I am only asking but what are your qualifications for your analysis? I really see a lot of potential in this kid. 22 years old, guys he played against growing up are still in college.

I see loads of potential as well. I guess that would be the reason for my rant several weeks ago.
I've noticed that Savard has dipped into his ice time a little. That would be a good indication that he's not living up to his real potential.
Time will tell.

Byfuglien has talent and potential, but at this point in time he makes too many stupid mistakes to be a defenseman in this league. The Hawks are better off putting him at forward and utilizing his skills there. At forward, his stupid mistakes will be less costly. However, since we are already shorthanded on defense, and considering we have to put up with Cam Barker's pathetic defensive play, we have to put up with Byfuglien on defense for now.

LOL, the only problem is he misses the net 90% of the time.

Yeah, he does seem to miss the net when things are hectic on the ice. I like Savard calling the team out. I'm curoius to see how the team plays in Colorado.
Every point counts!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the game tonight. Colorado is a beatable team and this is a game that the Hawks should win if they are playoff worthy.

Terrible showing from top to bottom against the Avalanche... Two fluke goals at the end made it look closer than it was, but ultimately this game was over before it started. The defense was back on it's toes and the offense just couldn't get it together to make any real run. Now that I think about it, all 3 Hawks goals were flukes!
I just hope this game isn't indicative of what's to come on this long road trip.
Did anyone notice that Byfuglien was a healthy scratch? After his rant, does anyone think that Savard was sending a message to him in particular?
Oh well, on to San Jose...

If Savards rant was directed towards Byfuglien, it makes me wonder why Cam Barker is still playing. Yeah, Byfuglien turns the puck over too much, and he doesn't play solid defense. However, Barker looked horrible last night. Another guy that is a joke is Martin St. Piere. Why he is even on this team is a joke. Basically, what we saw last night is a minor league team. Unfortunately, it does appear to be indicative of what's to come on this road trip. Habby had a bad game, Robert Lang did not look good with the exception of the fluke goal you referred to. Robert Lang had a lot of careless plays last night. All around, it was simply a pathetic showing. I haven't even mentioned Rene Bourque but I'll leave him alone for now since it's obvious that he sucks.

This kids got loads of potential. If you knew how far he has come with his skating abilities you'd be amazed. 3 years from now he'll be a 20G 20A 200PIM guy.

Other than the massive amount of turnovers he keeps making, he was playing great with Toews. Now he needs some work.
But I think the Bulin wall needs to be traded. He simply stinks.

Watching him at forward on Saturday was a little painful to watch. I understand it was his first game back there in a while, but he seemed out of his element.
I like the idea of getting his size in front of the net and I certainly can see a 20 or 30 goal season for him after a couple of years. I might be missing something, but I don't think he's got the hands to dish out many assists.
No where do I see any inclination on his part to get that many penalty minutes. Does anyone know? Does he have a mean streak? A player his size can command a LOT of respect if he can handle his own physically. It'd be great to see.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the guy. No one makes it to the NHL by accident.

Agreed! The Hawks have to decide really soon if they are going to be sellers.
Dale Tallon does have to move some guys and get some role players in for next year. Khabibulin would make a great addition to any team looking to shore up for the playoffs. But it goes without saying, a solid goalie is not easy to find. The Hawks would be stupid to move him.
The Hawks can only get better. Guys like Lang and Lapointe would garner some interest when and if they Hawks look to start moving players.

Jonathan Toews is back practicing.
Dustin Byfuglien 11 shots on goal against Edmonton.? There are games where teams barely have that many. If you add in Duncan Keiths six. WOW. Of course no goals between them either.

I'm thinking now is the time for the Hawks to turn into sellers and shore up for next year. It might be the absence of Toews, but this team is surely lacking something. Lapointe dropping them in his first shift back to stick up for Burish was nice to see.
Early in the Oiler game, Byfuglien took two punches in the face and did nothing but skate away. Eddie Olczyk commented on the air that such transgressions need to be addressed on the ice. Byfuglien is a big man, he should act like it.
The Oilers set the tone early and ended up skating away with the game easily after that.
Anyway, there are Hawks with experience that can be moved to contenders. Sure there is a lot of hockey left to play, but I don't think this team is ready anymore. They look lost now.
Here's to hoping they prove me wr | |
