This season threw the BCS a curveball.  I think the best system to find a true National Champion this year would be the old bowl system.

The old system with conferences locked into bowls would produce some great match-ups. A few of the bowls would still have to pick at-large teams, but here are some of the possible match-ups the old system could have produced.

Rose: (Big 10 v Pac 10) USC v Ohio State

Orange: (ACC v at-large) Virginia Tech v Missouri

Fiesta: (Big 12 v at-large) Oklahoma v Georgia

Sugar: (SEC v at-large) LSU v West Virginia

*Big East traditionally went to the Sugar or Orange

This system still wouldn't produce a clear cut champion, but at least voters wouldn't be locked into voting for a team.  They could watch the games and decide from there.

This isn't a post trying to discredit the BCS, I think once the BCS adopts the +1 system we'll have the best system we've ever had.

I personally don't like the games spread out over a week either. 1 or 2 days and we'll see who the champion is. In addition, the old system also allowed #3 or #4 to have a shot at winning the NC, if #1 or #2 lost their match-ups. It put more suspense to watching the bowl games. Now, its seems frugal at times to watch other bowl games, because the champion will be decided by just one game. The poll system decides who is better, but we all know that the best team on paper doesn't always win.

What get's me is how USC is now trying to campaign for a share of the national title.  It's complete bull$hit that they every had a share before, and now they want it again?  Why even have the BCS then?  How can they even suggest that after losing twice and one of those losses was to unranked Stanford AT HOME?  They've always been a bunch of crybabies who expect eveyrone to give them what they want without earning it.  If this happens again, there is no way we can continue with the BCS.

what bugs me is that Ohio State is in the national championship, they don't even play in a conference championship and they lost one of their last games of the season. I definitely agree that the true champion of this year would be confirmed from the old way, not this joke called the BCS.

I agree with changing this system again.  I thought strength of schedule was suppose to weed out the overhyped no loss(Haw.) one loss(OSU)  teams who didn't beat anyone!!!

Someone tell me how beating MICH. get's you in the titlle game all the time.

back in the days of the BIG 8 all we ever heard is that NU and OU didn't play anyone and were too slow and should be excluded.

WELL  WHAT THE HELL DID WE JUST WATCH FOR 2 YEARS IN A ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE BIG 10 CHAMP  UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE SHOULD BE GIVEN THE ROSE BOWL WHEN IT'S NOT THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!  WHEN THEY BEAT THE 2ND RANKED PAC-TEN SCHOOL 2 YEARS IN A ROW THEN AND ONLY THEN SHOULD THE BIG10 BE CONSIDERED FOR THE NC!!!!

BIG 10 IS OVER-HYPED CONFERENCE IN AMERICA!!!!
