wow, those are the most optimistic "predictions" ive seen in a long time. the only realistic projection there is for pierzynski. konerko and thome are good players, i'm glad you didnt go predicting 45 HR for either though. cabrera will top out at 30 steals, richar is totally unproven, owens is in that same boat (70 steals?? - he might not even have a starting job).
last year was a fluke like ive never seen. i cant believe the ENTIRE team hit so poorly for the whole year, and that a bullpen with that much talent could be so god-awful. neither will be even close to as bad this year, just because there's no reason they should have been so bad last year. however, the rotation looks to be a little worse, and defensively the team is middle-of-the-road, especially without crede (who deserves to have two gold gloves by now).
my "realistically optimistic" projection for the Sox has them 89-73. maybe that will be good enough for the wild card in a strong AL central.

did you just say the whitesox won games by hitting homeruns????? they had 2 people hit over 25 homeruns Paul Konerko had 40 and Jermaine Dye had 31. You have to know what you are saying before you say it.

The White Sox hit 190 HRs last year breaking a streak of 6 or so straight years of hitting more than 200 in a season. They were second in the AL only behind the Yankees. The White Sox have recently lived and died by the home run, and last year with their terrible OBP, the lived and died on the solo home run.
They also had 5 players hit 20 or more home runs in Jim Thome (35), Paul Konerko (31), Jermaine Dye (28), Josh Fields (23), and Juan Uribe (20). Although I think Uribe only got about 22 or 23 hits total.

The Sox have a better chance at bringing back the collared jerseys w/ shorts than they do at winning 100 games and compiling a team avg of .290. Live in the now.

I agree winning 100 games is out of the picture with the division we are in. I do not see the sox winning more than 95 games.

The White Sox have never won 100 or more games in their 100+ year history, and there is no reason to believe that they will this year. I think the team will be much improved, but even winning 90 games this season will be an accomplishment. With Swisher and Cabrara, the Sox should have more guys on base when the likes of Thome, Konerko, and Dye get up to the plate. I think we are going to produce a lot more runs...especially if Owens can be an effective leadoff man.
I'm looking forward to this season, but a lot has to go right for this team for them to make the playoffs.

I see killer... I was confused, but in 2005 the Sox did hit 200 HRs as a team, but you're right without the pitching we'd have had no chance.

You guys will battle it out with the Twins for 3rd. And you will lose that battle. Tigers and Indians are a lock....95 games will get you 2nd place. Tigers win 105 .....Indians 95...Sox and Twins hover at 500.

Oh, NOW we know what will happen this year...thanks to "lionspleasewin".
You come over here talking smack with your "lock" predictions. What a joke. The Tiggers had 88 wins last year and will not improve to 105. I believe that there will be three teams with 90+ wins in the Central this year, with only the finishing order yet to be determined.
Outside of Verlander the Starting Rotation should concern EVERY Tiggers fan. They could possibly have the highest ERA in the Central, and the bullpen is a disaster waiting to happen.

Outside of Verlander the Starting Rotation should concern EVERY Tiggers fan. They could possibly have the highest ERA in the CentralIn 2006 when we went to the series...we had the lowest team ERA in the league...And the most shutout...Our starters were ...Verlander, Rogers, Bonderman, Robertson, and Miner(for Maroth). Last year Rogers was out the entire year..Bonderman was hurt the whole second half. He was 9-1 with 3.48 era the first half. So we made it to the series with 4/5 's of the staff and without Sheffield or Cabrera or Renteria. I think if healthy we cant lose....If injuries happen who knows.

I must agree, i think the Tigers rotation will hold up fine, especially with the bats behind them, The Central Division has got to be the best i have seen it in years, If Clevelands starters were no fluke last year, they should give Detroit more than they can handle, but dont count out the Twins, i think they will surprise a lot of people and teams this years, like they did a couple years ago, Chicago is another team that has the right ingrediants to put up a good fight, just dont know how there starting pitchers will hold up. Should definitely be a fun and interesting year for the AL Central!!

The Tigers rotation is so over rated. Verlander is a stud, but after that? Bonderman had an ERA over 5.00 last year, and has never had an ERA under 4.08. Robertson and Bonderman both have records under .500. Willis has been in the decline for 2 straight seasons, and had an ERA over 5.00 last season in the NL. Oh, and Kenny Rodgers something like 68 years old. You'll be lucky to get 100 innings out of him. Sorry...but the Tigers pitching staff doesn't not scare me. Their lineup is a different story, but you win in the playoffs with pitching, not a viscous lineup ..just ask the Yankees.

Exactly how I see it uffl69. Yes they are a great hitting team but that pitching staff is a concern. The same was said about them today on ESPN. They cannot be expecting much from that bullpen either.
No way Todd Jones ends the year as the Tigers closer. The fact they are depending on him for that role says a lot about the Tigers bullpen. They better expect to win every game by 4 or more runs. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a few trades to try to improve that pen.

i hope you are right....but all i think the sox need is a second baseman. trade fields for Brian Roberts. and then put alexi/owens in center and have them platoon.

I am not going to lie I think we could contend this year. The Tigers I say are overrated. The Indians wont be the same, and the Twins and Royals are w | |
