Uh, so apparently, according to Wikipedia, this isn't actually a real thing, so they are threatening to take it down.

Most of my hockey posts lately have either been on the team page there, except for this thread, which should be right up ninermaniac's alley:)
You're right, WM, that was a fun thread to read. IMO, anyone who kneejerks to a bandwagon comment probably does so because it just might be close to the truth.
But the article is interesting. There is no doubt Marian Hossa is a hired gun. I don't buy the opinion, though, that all of a sudden the Red Wings are attracting star players who will take less money just for a chance at The Cup. If that was true, then the Red Wings would look more like the Western Conference NHL All Star team.

Loser is back! How goes it, HL?

mmmm.....they don't? Maybe just the first line or two of the West All Star team. Oh, and almost all of the defense. And one or two of the goalies could've qualified.

I'm a little slow here, but it looks like if you want your team to get the NHL's outdoor game ... just sign Ty Conklin. Conks can go 3-0 ... provided the Wings play him.

No! Jason Smith is gone! I guess it was inevitable. Good luck Jason! We loved your game here in Flyerville.

Detroit had exactly one defenseman (Nicklas Lidstrom) on the 2008 All Star team, and four players total. I'm not saying the Red Wings aren't good and deep. Obviously, they are, or else they wouldn't have won The Cup. What I am saying is that players aren't flocking to Detroit like the media seems to be insinuating.

haha, yeah but that's because they wouldn't do that to the fans. They could have most certainly put more Red Wings on that team, but people would've gotten mad.
What I am saying is that players aren't flocking to Detroit like the media seems to be insinuating.
I know. I understand that's your point. However they have over the years gotten their fair share of great FAs when they were already deep and prepared to make a run for the Cup (Hossa, Cheli, Hasek, Rafalski, etc. as of recent seasons). That's by no means a bad thing, so I wouldn't take offense to it. Most teams are jealous of it.

If I say I'm not taking offense to it, does that mean I'm actually taking offense to it? Well, anyway, I'm not.
Your example of the four players, IMO, is apples and oranges, because two are pre lockout signings and two are post lockout signings.
If this was pre-lockout, I would agree with you 100%, because that's exactly what the Red Wings did, went and got the biggest and best free agents available. Post lockout, it hasn't been quite like that, with the lone exception of Marian Hossa. Brian Rafalski isn't a good example of that because the Red Wings signed him to fill the loss of Mathieu Schneider, who I consider as good as if not better than Rafalski. A bit longer in the tooth, though.
