I think you make a very good point. All things being equal, UK is undoubtedly the better job. Better fan base, money money, more tradition and with a coach like Donovan, one of the easiest schools to recruit for in the country.
However, all things are not equal at this point. At UF, Donovan is already bringing in elite recruiting classes. In fact, if he lands Patterson, he will probably have the best class in the nation this year. With another national championship, he is right up there with Coach K and Roy Williams as the guy everybody wants to play for, no matter where he is coaching. Thus, he is already about as high as he can go with respect to recruiting and there is no real advantage to moving to UK, or at least the advantage isn't all that significant.
Furthermore, he has some history with Pitino and with Tubby that would appear more likely to keep him away from the job than to push him towards it. Does he really want to compete with his mentor's legacy or his friend's? Does he want to leave a school that has been very good to him and go to their main rival (and for now it is actually a rivalry)? On top of all that, he also has the opportunity right now to be one of those few coaches that are associted with particular school as THE singular coaching legend. Its a damn esclusive list to boot.
The only real advantage is the fan support and the additional salary (which UF will largely match in all likelihood). Is that enough? I'm guessing that despite UK being a better job in a vacuum, Donovan will turn it down based on the real-world context in which he will make his decision. We'll see.

1) Kentucky got butt-raped by Gardner-Webb at Rupp. They should have gone harder after Billy D. Billy G. is limper than Karl Dorrell. Hey Gators, why aren't you out bashing the wildcats?
2) Rumor is that the Angels are in front in the race for A-Rod. They are meeting with his agent today.
3) Clippers are 4-0, and half of their team is injured. Imagine what they will do when they are all healthy.
4) Lakers are doing better than expected. Kobe is finally passing the ball.
5) Wellnd is a random, crack-baby.
6) Bengals is trying to hard at school.
7) Bahb is not selling timeshares anymore.... The Desert Rose went out of business.
8) RC's home in Orlando got repoed, he is moving to Vegas with Bahb.
9) Gatorgirl is still sitting in her dorm room, crying over the Auburn loss... .and the LSU loss.... and the Georgia loss...
10) Soriano is a chef. He will cater Bengals' wedding.

Kentucky...pffffffff
Losing to a weak school at Rupp is quite embarrassing. However, Kentucky will be a good team this year (unfortunately). That Patterson kid is going to be a star in the SEC...really wish we could have landed him.
Gardner-Webb...LOL

Leak to play for AAFL's Team Florida
11:41 pm, November 7, 2007
Former University of Florida quarterback Chris Leak announced Wednesday that he will pursue his professional playing career as a member of Team Florida in the All American Football League.
As a member of Team Florida, Leak will be coached by another ex-Gator quarterback, Shane Matthews, and will once again play at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium — which will host three of the team's five home games during the 2008 inaugural season.
In 2006, Leak led Florida to a 13-1 record and a national championship and completed 25-of-36 passes for 213 yards along with one touchdown in the BCS Championship game against Ohio State.
Leak finished his career as Florida’s all-time leader in passing attempts (1,458), completions (895) and yardage (11,213). He is second all-time in school history in completion percentage (61.4%) and touchdown passes with 88.
“We know the passion for college football is unrivaled among Florida fans and fans in the other AAFL markets that will host teams,” Team Florida Board Chairman and former Florida receiver Lee McGriff said.
In addition to Florida, AAFL teams based in Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas will make-up the All American Football League when play begins in April 2008.
“Fans in Florida are enthusiastic about having the opportunity to see players like Chris Leak play in The Swamp again,” he said.
good for him

I just hope this isn't a sign of what is to come in basketball. App. State started the trend in football at the beginning of the year. Let's just hope that Gardner Webb isn't starting a basketball underdog trend.

I shouldn't talk. I can't think of the last UCLA quarterback who started on an NFL team. Maybe Troy Aikman.
