We already have a playoff, it starts in August, lasts 14 weeks, and at the first weekend of December, we find out who belongs on top.  Right now you have two undefeated teams and several one loss teams that are going to get to have the chance to prove they belong on top.  If Bama and Texas Tech win out, they are both undefeated, and deserve to be in the championship game.  You cannot forget, Florida, USC, and Oklahoma had their chance, and lost a game.  Playoffs work the same way.

that is an absurd thing to say...when was the last time an undefeated team won the nc?  a couple of years ago, so obviously we do not have a playoff.  if we did, they would never have won a nc.

i am sick of the argument "every game is a playoff game"  no, it actually is not.  if it were, when you lost, you would be done.  that could not be further from the truth.

Seriously you're an idiot.. Playoffs work nothing like that...with a playoff anyone would be able to play for the national title. That means a team with 4 or 5 loses could play for the title just like in NCAA Basketball.

The regular season is the playoff?  Wow, what a concept!  Maybe we should contact the NFL, that way they can save us the misery of having to wait over a month between the end of the regular season and the Super Bowl.  I, for one, absolutely hate all the drama and suspense that comes with the NFL playoffs.  Just take the top team from the NFC and AFC at the end of the season.  Better yet, FORGET the team records, just have writers vote on which two NFL teams should play in the Super Bowl.

I fail to understand why I-AA, II, III, NAIA, and every other organized sports system in the country uses a playoff system to determine its winner, but I-A is the only one that can't.  Heck, even NASCAR saw how much excitement and money there was by going to playoff system of sorts.

Good responeses guys.  Get a couple wins and 'Bama fans are all sorts of full of themselves.  So when 'Bama loses a game and gets passed by another 1 loss team for the national championship, how will you like the system then?  Because the way it works now with coaches and writers and computers deciding sounds an awful lot like gymnastics to me.  Peoples interpretations of wins multiplied by an interpretation of degree of difficulty = crashitty system.

It's true that the current system makes the regular season more important in college football than any other sport -- but what we have is nothing like a playoff.

Consider the fact that Florida lost at home to unranked Ole Miss, but still controls its own destiny in the BCS, but Oklahoma lost on a neutral field to #4 Texas, and may need help to get in.

I'm a Gator fan and can make a good argument why this is approporiate this season, but the point is that the BCS system only works to everyone's satisfaction when there are exactly two undefeated teams.  Any more or any less, and someone will feel like they're getting screwed.  If we had a real playoff, I would feel much less sympathy for a team that feels like it should have gotten in as #8 than #2.

Jaco you are correct in one of your statements only, that Alabama and Texas tech are both undefeated. That is all. If you open up your blinders and look back to the last 6years of college football you will clearly see how many times the BCS National Champion has been the team that clearly had the best record. Just look at the final polls from previous years, 2007 Kansas finishes 4th as one of only two 1 loss teams (Hawaii). 2006 Boise St undefeated, the ONLY team with 0 losses. They deserve a chance at national championship. Your playoff system would make them Champs right? 2005 clearly had 1 winner Texas. 2004 had three 0 loss teams, USC, Utah and Auburn. Now how can there be a clear #1 when 3 teams won every game they played?  2003 ended up 4 teams with only 1 loss. Maybe they got the best team winning that year but how can you clearly say USC had more of a right to the championship than any of the other 1 loss teams. 2002 definitely had Ohio St as only undefeated team. So in the last 6 years your August through December playoff system had the clear #1 team winning .333 percent of the time. Not bad if you are going for the MLB batting title, but a 33% winning percentage in any other sport gets you fired. I once heard someone say if you continue doing the things you have always done you will continue to get the same results. Oh and one more thing.. Texas tech vs Alabama if they continue to win out sounds great but what about Utah, shouldn't they have a chance?
