So the experts are at it again as usual. The have their Power conferences getting every team and their mother into the NCAA tourney. While they have the down conferences getting just a handful in. I really have trouble with their logic sometimes. Because they feel that certain conferences are up they have teams with 2 and 3 game losing streaks in and in the top 25. They have teams in these conferences that are middle of the pack and bottom of the conference in.
I mean how many lives does Syracuse have? Really? These guys are 5-5 over their last 10. 1-6 against the top 50! And will it ever be another team or is it going to be them every single year? "Its time for the annual syracuse debate everyone!" If you have to look at it like that all the time then they probably shouldnt be in until they have convincing wins!
There are some strong teams from the "down" conferences that should and would be better than these middle of the road teams in the "up" conferences any day. The experts rely to much on numbers and not the ones that matter the most. This is a game of emotion and ups and downs on the court and that is were they should be played out. The smaller conferences whose numbers as a whole struggle because of this terrible level of inexact science suffer the most. In many of these small conferences there are 2 3 even 4 teams that are playing great and have things going for them but because they do not have the "power" of the larger conferences they sit at home or go to the NIT. When we all know where they really belong.
But I guess what we are being told is you have to take the ups with the downs. Because the thing the NCAA Selection Committee does have going for them is that March Madness is the most exciting college championship system in all the athletics out there. So while teams are snubbed and conferences are perfered over others at the end of the day at least the system is exciting. Right. Thats what it boils down to. You take the ups with the downs in College BB and in the end at least you fill like you havnt been robbed of any excitment. At least you can say that...then there is college FB on the other hand.
