2009 Wooden Award List Projection

Posted on: April 16, 2008 10:27 pm
Edited on: April 17, 2008 12:03 pm

Part 1 - Projecting the Field
Part 2 - Preseason Top 25
Part 3 - Wooden Award
Part 4 - Predicting the Seedings (still to come)
Part 5 - Tourney Playout (still to come)

Wooden Award Projections
#1: DJ Augustin, Texas - Augustin remained in the thick of the hunt all of 2007-08 and his Texas team will go far next year, especially with him at the point.

#2: Stephen Curry, Davidson - After watching this guy in the tourney, i was absolutely baffled.  He will probably be averaging high 20s all year and will take Davidson back to the tourney.

#3: Luke Harangody, Notre Dame - Harangody is in a quite similar position to where Tyler Hansborough was at the beginning of '07, and the results could be very similar.

#4: A.J. Price, Connecticut - A.J. has that bad injury, but should return 100% and go back to what he did the whole season while leading Uconn to a #4 seed in the tourney.

#5: Robbie Hummel, Purdue - Hummel showed great promise this year, and the door will be wide open as his team stays strong while the Big Ten as a whole looks ready for a downfall.

#6: Sam Young, Pittsburgh - Young was the most consistent Panther last year and is capable of getting 20 points and 10 boards night in and night out.

#7: Mario Chalmers, Kansas - Everybody seems to put this guy high because of his name-making shot, but Mario is one of, if not the best, defenders in the league.  Not to mention, he has the quickest hands.

#8: Blake Griffin, Oklahoma - The third Big 12 Candidate on my list, Griffin brings a lot to the table, and should lead the Sooners to a terrific season in 2009.

#9: Patrick Patterson, Kentucky - Patterson was a dominant force in the middle for the Wildcats until his de-motivational injury.  Expect him to come back with big hope next year.

#10: Nick Calethes, Florida - Calethes was one of Florida's few bright spots last year, and with his skills/hairdo combination, he simply, can't be beat.

Also in consideration (rankings in parentheses):
(11) Raymar Morgan, Michigan State
(20) Johnny Flynn, Syracuse
(15) A.D. Vassilo, Virginia Tech
(19) Terrence Williams, Louisville
(18) Greg Paulus, Duke
(22) Greg Monroe, Georgetown*
(16) Sherron Collins, Kansas
(14) Brandon Jennings, Arizona
(21) Kyle McAlarney, Notre Dame
(17) James Harden, Arizona State
(12) Dominic James, Marquette
(13) Davon Jefferson, Southern California
