Ten leagues have Sweet 16 representatives

Posted on: March 23, 2008 8:25 pm

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sunday was tame, relatively speaking.

Just one of the eight games played resulted in an upset.

And I bet you can guess which team got upset.

Anyway, the Sweet 16 is now set.

Here's how it looks by league.

Pac-10: Three representatives (UCLA, Stanford, Washington State)
Big East:  Three representatives (Louisville, West Virginia, Villanova)
Big 12: Two representatives (Kansas, Texas)
Big Ten: Two representatives (Wisconsin, Michigan State)
SEC: One representative (Tennessee)
ACC: One representative (North Carolina)
C-USA: One representative (Memphis)
A-10: One representative (Xavier)
Southern: One representative (Davidson)
Sun Belt: One representative (Western Kentucky)

The Big East had 8 teams when the tourney began, now they are down to 3.Villanova will most likely be done after their sweet sixteen game against Kansas.Maybe the Big East didn't deserve to have all those teams get in.

Does that mean the Big 12 is better than the ACC? The Pac 10 and Big East are the best College Basketball conference this year? and SEC weak this year.

It's all fair though. The Big East ended up where they were by winning when it mattered.

It is time that the Big Ten gets some acknowledgment.  Before the tourney started, everyone was talking about how terrible the Big Ten was.  Mich St. knocked off Big East darling Pitt, and Wisconsin blew through K-St., even though basically every analyst said the Badgers would be upset.  The Big East and ACC, both regarded as two of the top three basketball conferences, along with the Pac 10.  The Big East and ACC seem to be a bit of a fraud to me.

Round 2 was interesting...Goodbye Duke and  Georgetown.

Teams with suprisingly easy wins- NC hammered Arkansas, Wisconsin showed they can play up-tempo against Kansas St,  Louisville crushed Oklahoma. Washington St looks like the real power out of the Pac-10.  Kansas on a collision course with the "heels.  Michigan St yo-yo is up right now.

Teams that won but should have gone down-  UCLA sqeeked by on another late basket, Memphis held on against Mississippi St, Stanford got lucky against Marquette,  Tennessee was sloppy vs Butler.  Texas forgot that the game was 40 minutes.
