Move over, Michael Vick. You have a partner.

Not in jail, in the pantheon of Idiots Who Had It All And Then P----- It Away.

By now you know that LSU, the SEC -- and maybe college football -- were knocked silly Friday morning with the news that Ryan Perrilloux has been kicked off the team. A surprise only in that Perrilloux actually let it get this far. The much-troubled Perrilloux finally answered the question: What does it take for the starting LSU quarterback who saved the season, helped win a national championship and could have competed for the Heisman, to get kicked off the team?

Answer: A lot, but Perrilloux apparently met all the qualifications.

At least two outlets were reporting before noon on Friday that Perrilloux had failed a drug test.

Mr. Hubris blew his tentative place on the roster after returning recently from a third suspension. That had every backup on the LSU roster asking: If he got three chances, what happens if I mess up?

This was as much about Perrilloux' misconduct as Les Miles preserving order on the team. If the next kid to get suspended didn't get at least three chances then Miles had a problem. The reason why Perrilloux lasted this long was because he was a star, the starting quarterback, the key to the season. With him, the Tigers were a genuine force in the SEC West coming off that national title. Without him, 6-6 might be a good season.

So Perrilloux had to screw up bad this time. And by bad I mean worse than missing team meetings or trying to pass a fake ID. Those are the things we know about. Of course, the kid's leash with Miles was shorter than a length of dental floss. Hey, there's an image: Miles finally pulled LSU's diseased tooth, even it meant going with inexperienced quarterbacks.

Because of that, I respect Miles now more than I ever have. He essentially chucked the season. At his best, Perrilloux was a unique talent, but not with more suspensions than starts.

And before we go on, I'd like to remind everyone of the happy hour for the entire staff Friday afternoon in Mack Brown's office. Remember that Perrilloux originally committed to Texas. It's a TGILP party -- Thank God It's Les' Problem.

Yeah, Perrilloux is incredibly stupid and arrogant and narcissistic, just like Vick. (What, you forgot the kid predicted four Heismans when he was in high school?) Both quarterbacks thought they were bulletproof. Smooth criminals on different levels. One was a dog killer but both killed their own careers.

I know that only Vick is serving time in jail. R.P.? He's in limbo, the jail of public opinion. Expect to see him pop up again at Nicholls State or some other Division I-AA outpost. Maybe the Arena League.

There, he can be free, live life the way he wants because, let's be honest, the atmosphere at LSU was soooo stifling.

Ryan Perrilloux needs to be at a place where they really coddle their misbehaving backup quarterbacks.

He actually predicted that he would win FOUR Heismans. Either way, I agree completely with you Dodd. And that'll be about the second time I've ever said that.

Perrilloux really did have a cushy situation. Free education, gateway to the NFL, and all he had to do was attend class, play football and keep his nose clean. Millions of Americans would jump at that deal and carry it through as if they would die for stepping a toe out of line. However, Perrilloux (like many others in this day and age, sadly) felt he was above the law, above punishment, and he felt entitled. It's disgusting. I'm glad Miles handled it the way he did.

6-6 last season? Chucking away next season. Come on Dodd you can't be that stupid. LSU has enough talent to compete without RP. Not saying it won't be tougher but I'm sure Miles and Crowton will have a few tricks up their sleeve.

I don't think I'd bet on a 6-6 season for LSU but with as tough as the play is in the SEC its a definite possibility if LSU can't get reliable play from one of their other quarterbacks

Most of us will never know...

I was never a college athlete. D3 Rugby is about as far as I got in college, and I could not even begin to imagine what it feels like to play on a Division 1 football team. I don't know how I would handle the power that is associated with being a first (or second, or third, or fourth) string QB for a national championship team, because I have never been in that position. But, after all is said and done with this Perriloux case, I have to say for certain that I wouldnt go to the extremes that Perriloux did in his situation.

Maybe it's because I am a Texas fan, but I smelled trouble four years ago when Ryan P. de-committed from Texas in the 25th hour, not only robbing us of a speedy successor to VY, but also convincing Martellus Bennett to go elsewhere. Ryan decommitted because Mack Brown couldn't promise him the starting job in front of VINCE YOUNG. So this guy goes to LSU, talks smack about upstaging Jamarcus and Matt Flynn, doesnt, then proceeds to get himself in trouble everywhere he goes. This wasnt just "oh, he's an athlete under the watchful eye of the public" trouble, this was "screw you, I dont care what you think" trouble. He then lets his ego take over at a late night restaurant with two exotic dancers, pisses of the wait staff, then gets mad when they wont serve him after closing time.

Its a tragedy when someone like Perriloux chooses to throw away all of their potential for a few years marked by run-ins with the law and an unfavorable image projected by the media. Any prospective employer who sees the last name "Perriloux" on a resume will instantly move on to the next one. Texas doesnt take well to traitors, and Louisiana doesnt think very much of the kid that just walked away from the starting throne on the defending national championship team. I hope Ryan finds himself through all of this, and makes something of himself.

The saddest day of this kids life is when he finds out that his glorified view of himself is not shared with anyone else in the world.

It is amazing how one's life can change when you surround yourself with the wrong people. Kudos to

Les Miles. He just made maybe the biggest statement of the year! Nice column Dennis, this might be the first time

I have ever agreed with you.

I would just like to extend an official thank you to Ryan Perrilloux for switching from Texas to LSU on signing day. Your true colors finally caught up to you in real life. Good luck in the fast food industry.
