Edited on: February 20, 2008 3:15 pm

Well here it goes, predictions in February.

Tell me what you think.

AL

East

Yankees 97-65-too much talent to miss playoffs

Red Sox 95-67- Duke it out with Yanks, Indians, Tigers all year for playoff spot

Blue Jays 90-72- In NL, playoff team, in AL East not even top 2

Rays 81-81-.500 Whoo Hoo!

Orioles 59-103- Brutal, just brutal.

Central

Tigers 99-63- Willis returns to form to complete best pitching staff in Majors

Indians 95-67-Corner outfielders are questionable, but otherwise excellent

White Sox 84-78- Atleast trying to improve

Twins 80-82- Will almost get to .500 in surprisingly decent season

Royals 71-91- Blah.

West

Angels 94-68- Another division win for LA of Anaheim. What a dumb name.

Mariners 93-69- Good effort, but not there yet.

Rangers 75-87- Good year for the Rangeers, I guess.

A's 75-87- Tough transition year for Oakland.

NL

East

Mets 96-66- I'm not on their bandwagon, they just have so much talent, only Rightfield is an issue.

Phillies 93-69- Another good year from Phils, and Utley looks to complete 3 year MVP sweep.

Braves 84-78- Good year from the Braves, but Mets, Phils too much.

Marlins 70-92- Rebuilding again.

Nationals 70-92- LoDuca was a good pickup.

Central

Cubs 89-73- Division champs again?

Brewers 86-76- Just short of Cubbies.

Cardinals 83-79- Pujols won't hold off surgery once he sees team isnt competitive.

Astros 81-81- Tejada does extremely well, but not good enough team to win consistently.

Reds 81-81- Improvement.

Pirates- 70-92- Sam-old Bucs.

West- By the way top four teams can go in all different orders

D-Backs 94-68- Pitching wins championships.

Rockies 90-72- Cinderella's shoe still fits nicely.

Padres 88-74- Pitching wins championships, but you still need a bit more pop (ie Chris Young in ARZ).

Dodgers 87-75- Good team, but not as good as the top 3.

Giants 67-95- Contend with O's for last in MLB, but lke role of spoilers at end of year.

PLAYOFFS (Indians beat Red Sox 5-3 in tiebreak)

WILDCARD

AL- Tigers over Angels in 5 games, Indians over Yankees in 4.

NL- Cubs over Mets in 5, Phillies over D-Backs in 5

ALCS

Tigers over Indians in 7

NLCS

Phillies over Cubs in 6

WORLD SERIES

Tigers over Phillies in 6

Playoff MVP: Ordonez-DET

NL Regular Season MVP: Utley-PHI

AL Regular Season MVP: Sizemore-CLE

NL Cy Young: Peavy-SD

AL Cy Young: Halladay-TOR

MLB 2008 Predictions

I don't know enough about the NL to comment, but I think the AL wild card will go to Cleveland with New York coming in second.  The East will end up being tougher than the Central this year.  As you indicate, the Twins will probably have a down year, and the White Sox and Royals are still rebuilding.  Toronto should be a force again this year, and I could see them making the East a 3 team race that drags the 2nd place team out of the playoffs (similar to the Central last year).  That would leave Cleveland (or possibly Detroit if the bullpen underperforms) with the wild card spot.  In my opinion Boston looks more solid than New York coming into the season, and I can see the Yankees finally missing out on the playoffs.   I like the Tigers to win it all, but as noted above it'll depend on the pitching.
