What's the Best Pinball Game of All Time?

Posted on: May 16, 2008 4:15 pm

It's time for Warpyland to take a break from the usual hockey posts and see how many pinball fanatics are out there.  In roughly chronological order, the following list has the games that had the most profound effect on my ill-spent youth.

  1. Captain Fantastic (my favorite among the old school machines with analog digit counters)
  2. Mata Hari (one of the first, if not the first to have LED digit counters)
  3. Xenon (one of the earlier talking pinball machines; also one of the earlier machines to have a tube ramp -- affectionately referred to as "the fallopian tube" by warped minds -- to create a multi-level play field)
  4. Firepower (one of the first games to feature multiball play)
  5. Eight Ball Deluxe (in my book, by far the greatest pinball game ever)
  6. Star Trek, The Next Generation (the game I'd most like to play for a buck a point)
  7. Sopranos (I'd love to hear the language on the R and X-rated chips available for this machine)
  8. WPT Poker ("player two is going full tilt!" sounds trippy in Spanish)

What are your faves?

What's the Best Pinball Game of All Time?

I love pinball but there are far too few that I can find anymore.

I have 2 favorites, the first is Elvira..it has the spin wheel on the top...Elvira's just hot..but a great game anyway.

2) is kinda rare, I found it in a dump about 6 years ago, and me and a few buddys spent many a night getting wasted playing "white water rafting"

Great games

What's the Best Pinball Game of All Time?

where the Wonderful idea WM!!!!!! This should really breakdown by age. I'm old enough that I missed the video arcade explosion, but I wasted my lunch money so many time on pinball machines(I assume we are limiting this to real metal ball, spring loaded bumpers, and plastic/rubber flippers and the ability to achieve maximum shaking while avoiding the dreaded tilt was a skill you mastered) and not electronic copycats. I'll have to do some research  to compile my list, so I'll be back after I have some more time.

Countless beer and hours spent in front of the Cyclone by Williams.  Great game.

What's the Best Pinball Game of All Time?

You nailed it with Eight Ball Deluxe! Love that candy cane spinner location. Perfectly set up machine for the pure shooter.

Some props for "The Wizard" machine that came out after the Who's Tommy movie. A little too easy though. That low right special target lit up soooo easy.

Also: The newer digital machines take most if not all of the skill and fun out of playing imho.

What's the Best Pinball Game of All Time?

The Addams Family ranks at the top in my book. I always could get the numbers to match
and play for hours on my 50 cents. There was a Thing hand that came out of a box and picked up the
ball if you hit it in a particular place.

I used to play a lot of the South Park pinball machine at school in Lincoln NE, at the Student Union
(back when they used to have a game room for us...its been a few years since I have been to the Union
is there still a video game room in the Union ??)

I vaguely remember playing a TMNT game. I didn't like it all that much and felt jipped out of my $1 that
I played it.

tmontana,

White Water was a blast! The pizza place around the corner had that game so my pizza was always cold by the time I finished playing. Great game. Adams Family was good too. T2 - played that a lot. Star Wars. . . Indy Jones. . . It's been awhile

What's the Best Pinball Game of All Time?

Great stuff, fans of the silver ball!!  Keep 'em coming.  Brings back great memories to see names of games that I'd forgotten all about.  Great call on Scared Stiff (some great lines in that game:) Wizard and Cyclone ("hey turkey, hit me!" and "million!")  I've gotta agree w/ Skydogg; the newer games take some of the fun out of playing because the replay score goes up to ridiculous levels once ya get a good game or two in.

Other games I'd forgotten about:  Earthshaker, Disco Fever, and Taxi (with Marilyn Monroe going "ooohh, oooh, ooh, Taxi!" and Gorbachev hollering "hey comrade, Taxi!")
