Since his arrival at Texas A&M as its new coach, Mike Sherman has spent time showing his amiable side.

He has frequently attempted to connect with the Aggies' fan base, realizing that was perceived as one of the weaknesses that eventually cost his predecessor, Dennis Franchione.

But Sherman, who spent the last 11 seasons in the NFL after previously serving as an A&M assistant under R.C. Slocum, also commanded the attention of the players he inherited.

By installing digital clocks throughout the A&M football complex, Sherman emphasized the need for players to be on time to meetings and practices.

"They have to be accountable," Sherman said. "And to me, being on time is a matter of respect, respecting your teammates and your coaches. You don't walk in late."

The strict scheduling includes 6 a.m. workouts for 10 days prior to the start of spring practice. Sherman immediately demonstrated his business-like approach and gained credibility as more than just someone who once coached Brett Favre in the NFL.

"Just the way he takes care of business, he gets everybody to buy in and make sure they are doing what they are supposed to do," quarterback Stephen McGee told the Houston Chronicle. "He did that from day one."

Of course, that's only a start. Rebuilding the Aggies following a disappointing 7-6 finish, which included a loss in the Alamo Bowl following Franchione's forced resignation, is not going to be easy. Especially when A&M returns the fewest starters (four offense, five defense and two special teams) of any program in the Big 12.

It seems that J-Train has been having some weight issues this offseason and since he was unable to get his weight down Sherman has moved him to FB. This helps out the offense because now Goodson will be the feature back and while he doesnt move the chains like J-Train does he gives us a different style of runner coming out of the backfield. He's much more dynamic and explosive than Lane is ...(more)

5 players.....thats pretty impessive....

Only UT had more Draft picks in the entire Big12 with 7.

I think that is the first time in the Leach era not to have a Tech player drafted...... But since we have 19 of 22 starters back in 2008, that is good for us in the long run.:)

the more TAMU guys that get drafted the better for us.:)

Confrats to your players and coaches though. ...(more)

It will be great to see a pro style offense at A&M. The option days are over and that is great news for Mike Goodson. We really need a great receiver with speed but having two good running backs will hide that weakness a bit.  Sherman is a hard nosed coach that will get the team on a winning track. It still remains to be seen how good the defense will be but they improved greatly last yea ...(more)

it looks like Bennett is (according to Pete Prisco) the 3rd best choice for TE in a football world that seems to be increasing the use of TE's.

what do you think? he deserves it? doesn't deserve it?

do you not care because you think he should have stayed?

are you happy for him?

what i think?  yes, no, kinda, and yes,

Just read an article on Aggieathletics.com reporting a deal between Texas A&M and Arkansas to play each other for 10 years starting October 3, 2009 at the Dallas Cowboys new stadium with the Razorbacks being the home team on odd years and the Aggies the home team on even years.  I can't wait to go see these games, with my wife being from Arkansas and me being a lifetim ...(more)
