The succession plan is in place. Joe Tiller is set to begin his final season in West Lafayette and Danny Hope has already been brought on staff as his successor to ease any gap in recruiting. For the man who turned around Purdue football, though, Tiller's final season could be a struggle.

Purdue returns six starters on each side of the ball and is without a number of playmakers on offense. That's never a good sign for a team built on the spread and its ability to make big plays.

This spring was a struggle just to stay healthy. A rash of minor, nagging injuries (none considered serious) left the coaches to mix and match lineups throughout the spring. By the time it was over, Tiller barely had any semblance of a depth chart heading into the fall.

"I don't view it as a negative," he said, "but it's what I would describe as an unsettled spring."

"Unsettled" could be a good word used to describe a team that loses four of its top five pass catchers, all three linebackers and its biggest playmaker on the defensive line in Cliff Avril. The incoming recruiting class didn't wow anyone, either, leaving Purdue looking like a very ordinary team as fall approaches.

Hey just a curious buckeye fan here wanting to know more about the teams around the big ten. I am hoping for the big ten to re-establish itself as a true power. While I dont buy the crap that the big ten is weak I do know ive seen better days of football for our conference. I have read things saying that PSU, illinois, wisky, and MSU are bringing back pretty good teams and I know OSU is as well, a ...(more)

Seems from what im reading that you guys really dont have a lot of faith in your boys this upcoming season. I thought i would stop by and just see what Purdue was all about considering my Ducks will be making a visit to you. From what i gather, you guys seem to have the "with a little luck we can be an 8 win team" or "we'll lose to all the good teams, but beat all the crappy ...(more)

So, Keller went as a late 1st rounder (no big surprise), where do you think Avril and Bryant will get drafted, and by whom?

Wow, I'm glad Tiller and Co.  really worked hard to recruit for us in this, his final season.  We managed to pick up ONE solid recruit...........a kicker.  Hey thanks guys.  You're absolutely terrible.  For a team that has gone to bowl games 10 out of the last 11 years, this is horrible.

I have lost all confidence in the program.  When you have

Former Purdue back Mike Alstott has retired from the NFL.  Alstott was my favorite players in the NFL not just because he was a Purdue player but aslo because I like the way he played particularly at Purdue and with the Bucs too.

Good luck to Mike with his future.  Hopefully, he can give back something to Purdue to help with their football program.  That would be nice but ...(more)

So what do you think guys about the hiring of Danny Hope?

my 2 cents.  i think this is a good hire.  When he was oline coach, he took many 1 and 2 star recruits and made them NFL players.  He has passion and a fire under him which has been lacking with our program for the lasy couple of years.  I think Danny Hope can bring some success into purdue and put us back

Later Selwyn.  He's been kicked off the team for another drunken driving incident. Way to go loser. Looks like last year vs. ND was the highlight of your life!

Or is it dbthagreat9?  Anyway, Dorien Bryant was an exciting player at Purdue, but he never seemed to have his head in the game.  I remember back to the Michigan game in 2004, the week after the infamous Orton fumble against Wisconsin.  He fumbled the ball away after getting leveled by Ernest Shazor on the sideline and essentially cost us the game.  His alligator arms in the bo ...(more)
