Sooners report: Notes, quotes
--Three Sooners made the preseason watch list for the 2008 Outland Trophy: senior LT Phil Loadholt (6-8, 351), senior LG Duke Robinson (6-5, 346) and junior DT DeMarcus Granger (6-2, 315). Five OU players have won the award, which goes to the nation's top interior lineman, most recently Jammal Brown in 2004. --Robinson and junior DE Auston English (6-3, 241) are on the watch list for the Lombardi Award and senior safety Nic Harris is a candidate for the Lott Trophy. Last season, English led the team with 9.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss despite missing four games due to injuries. Harris tallied 74 tackles and two interceptions in 2007. SPRING MOVERS LB Keenan Clayton -- The converted safety's blend of size (6-1, 220 pounds) and speed (4.5 in the 40) make him an ideal asset on running and passing downs. He played almost every snap in the spring game, alternating between first- and second-team defenses and registering four tackles and a sack. DE Frank Alexander -- Despite the Sooners' depth at this position, it's going to be hard to keep this 6-4, 259-pound redshirt freshman off the field. He showcased his athleticism with a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown and an 11-yard sack during the Red-White game. CB Dominique Franks -- The sophomore stole the show in the spring game with three interceptions, including one he returned 57 yards for a touchdown. "I think I had a pretty good day," he told the Tulsa World. CB Brian Jackson -- The junior impressed QB Sam Bradford with his improvement over last season. "I think B-Jack has had a really good spring," Bradford told Scout.com. "He is out there and he makes really good reads. He gets in and out of his breaks. He has played well this spring."
