SPRING OBJECTIVES
In the absence of a quarterback battle, the offensive focus could fall to the tailback position. Junior James Aldridge and sophomores Robert Hughes and Armando Allen are the main competitors. Aldridge rushed for a team-high 463 yards on 121 yards last season. Allen gained 348 yards on 86 attempts. Hughes came on late with 100-yard efforts in the last two games, finishing with 294 yards on 53 rushes. Going hand-in-hand with this will be the competition on a revamped offensive line.

BUILDING BLOCKS
Jimmy Clausen is the quarterback of the moment and the future. He played better in his final three starts as a true freshman, but he has a lot of growing to do. He ended up starting nine games, completing 138 of 245 passes for 1,254 yards, with seven touchdowns and six interceptions. He has the arm, but he will have to develop poise and decision-making for the Irish to be successful in 2008. He loses his top target -- tight end John Carlson -- but a young receiving corps of Robby Parris, Duval Kamara and David Grimes -- should help the passing game improve.

SCHEDULE SITUATION
Notre Dame has four of its first five games at home, starting with the opener against San Diego State. Game 2 should be interesting as new Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez brings the Wolverines to Notre Dame Stadium. The season-finale at USC (Nov. 29) is the toughest game on paper, but each game presents a reasonable degree of difficulty. Ten of the 12 games are against BCS-conference opponents; the others are SDSU and Navy. There should be enough wins on the schedule to get back to a bowl, but Notre Dame can't take any weeks off.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I don't want to pigeonhole the offensive staff, and I think that some of the creativity that comes in offense sometimes gets stymied when you have a domineering head coach that happens to be an offensive guy. I'm trying to cut this cord. Really, it's not the easiest thing to do. I'm trying to do that." -- Coach Charlie Weis, on taking a step back from running the offense.

Rutgers turned down a 6 year contract to play ND. The deal would of been for Rutgers to play ND at ND 3 times and 3 Times at the Meadowlands. The reason ND doesnt want to play at Rutgers stadium is because they dont hold enough seats.  Rutgers wanted 2 home games. I think this is a big mistake by Rutgers because this could of helped them out in Recruiting and be on National TV.  ...(more)

Here are some updates on some players.

Nick Kasa (DE)- He is one of the top DE's in the Nation. He has made his Final 3, Florida, ND, Colorado. He said all three are great schools. Another School might come back into it but as of right now These are the 3 schools. He likes all 3 schools for different reasons. Florida- Well he said it was the coolest place ever. Not a good sign. Campus is great. ...(more)

I was watching college football live on ESPN and it showed key loses for the Irish last season, and Maurice Crum's name was on that list. I thought he was coming back for a 5th year. Am I wrong with this and is he gone, or do we have him for one more season. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The guy who made this video at the bottom of the article had all access to the Blue & Gold game and footage of Weis saying, "To hell with Michigan".

Gotta love that fire from Weis. Hopeful ...(more)

I got off work at 1:30 this afternoon, and I made it in time for the 2nd part of the Blue & Gold game. I had never been to one of these until today, and it was not bad. I liked what I saw today.

Was anyone else there, and if so tell me what your thoughts are?

Does ESPN have a Ohio State Slant or what?  Herbstreet is using that station to recruit players. A friend of mine said OSU is doing some shady stuff (I can't confirm that) which does't surprise me.  I wish they played USC each year so we wouldn't have to watch them get destroyed in the Championship after beating up on a weak Big 10 schedule.  ...(more)

with ND's track record of  being completely obliterated in all their bcs games, along with their avoidance of entering an actual conference, and the continuous drubbing from their regular season schedule, will this program ever win another BCS game? or maybe the question should be, will they ever be invited back?

p.s. money can buy your program talent but you still have to put ...(more)
