2008 OUTLOOK: The four-game losing streak to cap the 2007 season, which left Kansas State with a losing record, is a negative the Wildcats carry into the season. If the addition of 19 JUCO transfers infuses new life, energy and talent into the program, then third-year coach Ron Prince could look like a genius. Getting that many newcomers to make an impact, however, can be difficult. It looks like an act of desperation and it's up to Prince to prove it isn't.

SCOUTING THE OFFENSE
QB Josh Freeman is a junior who was inserted as a starter in Big 12 play as a true freshman. He remains a raw talent, capable of winging the ball on a line with incredible velocity, yet is erratic. The Wildcats tinkered with a no-huddle attack during spring practice, but did not unveil it in the spring game. Distributing the ball to more receivers is critical following the loss of All-American Jordy Nelson.

SCOUTING THE DEFENSE
The collapse of this unit late last season, when it allowed 198 points in the last four games, including 73 to Nebraska, is the biggest concern entering the fall. The Wildcats should be solid in the secondary behind safeties Chris Carney and Gary Chandler, as long as playmakers step up at cornerback. The front seven must apply pressure on quarterbacks without taking unnecessary risks.

SCOUTING THE SPECIAL TEAMS
The loss of the Big 12's top punter, Tim Reyer, could be a blow. Returners Deon Murphy and Leon Patton are back and should pose a consistent threat again after Kansas State ranked first nationally with a 22.5-yard average on punt returns last season. PK Brooks Rossman also returns after going 22 of 28 on field goals.

ROSTER REPORT

--Several Wildcats did not dress for the spring game, including three offensive linemen with starting experience, OT Alesana Alesana, C Jordan Bedore and OT Nick Stringer. Stringer underwent offseason shoulder surgery. TE Jeremy Mack also did not dress for the spring game.

--Bedore, QB Josh Freeman, DE Ian Campbell and S Chris Carney were named captains.

The optimistic posts on this page are astounding to me.  Don't get me wrong i love kansas state.  I absolutely love this university and town in general.  However, it is obvious to me that Ron Prince is not the man we need leading this program.  We are NOT moving in the right direction.  The turnover in assistant coaches is evidence enough that we have great internal proble ...(more)

Looks like K-State has finally had enough from Fresno State and would like nothing else than to pull out of next season Sept. 6th match up between the two schools.  Talks continue to develop as K-State is willing to pay $500,000.00 to pull out of this match up in Manhatte ...(more)

(POLL)

What Kansas State team has been the best to ever suit up?

Some people automatically give it to the 1998 team because they were ranked #1 late in the season, but in reality they didn't accomplish much. Sure they reached the pinnacle, but they didn't win any hardware that year.

The 2003 team started off the year with high expectations and championship aspirations, but in ...(more)

Here are a few thoughts I thought I should share which I believe are my own.

Yes I believe Kansas State's new coach Ron Prince is doing a good job, in two years if we still have this win/loss record then no I do not believe he is doing a good job.

No I do not believe in the consistency like Bill Snyder had, it is ineffective at the moment as far as my next yes commen ...(more)

Dodd wrote an excellent article on Jordy Nelson. If you haven't read it yet, check it out on the College Football page.

I've already spent hours watching highlight films from the past couple of seasons. Why does the off-season have to be so long. At least we got the draft to hold us over. It will be interesting to see where Jordy ends up. I would love to see him on the Chiefs roster.
I'm also wondering where McKinney will go. What do you guys think his chances are of getting drafted?
