--Although Kansas coach Mark Mangino practically swept all of the national coach of the year awards after guiding the Jayhawks to a 12-1 finish last season, the only honor that netted him a bonus ($50,000) was The Associated Press award. Nonetheless, Mangino received $250,000 in bonuses for directing Kansas to the Orange Bowl in addition to his $1.5 million annual salary.

--Construction continues on the new football complex being built adjacent to Memorial Stadium. Plans are for the Jayhawks to move into the facility prior to the 2008 season, though summer conditioning will still take place in the existing weight room shared by all of the Kansas athletic programs.

SPRING MOVERS

OT Jeff Spikes - Impressed Kansas coach Mark Mangino as much as anyone auditioning for the opening at left tackle created by the early departure of All-American Anthony Collins.

RB Jake Sharp - The spring was Sharp's chance to promote himself as the featured back in the Kansas offense, but his diminutive size probably makes him a situational player again as long as prize JUCO transfer Jocques Crawford realizes his potential.

LB Mike Rivera - Enjoyed a strong spring in one of the deepest position groups on the Kansas roster. The play of the linebackers could smooth the transition faced by Clint Bowen following his promotion to defensive coordinator.

P/WR/QB Kerry Meier - Took over the punting duties during spring camp and averaged 41 yards on four attempts in the spring game. Remains the backup quarterback and will again play at receiver.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Things aren't just going to happen for us. We have to show up and make them happen. We learned that from last year. The Orange Bowl doesn't mean anything this season. We have the players that we need to have a great season, but we just need to make it happen." - Kansas QB Todd Reesing.

Kansas wide receivers coach Tim Beck on Monday was officially announced by Nebraska coach Bo Pelini as the new running backs coach for the Huskers, ending a month of speculation that the move would happen.

Beck had just finished his third year at Kansas and was a key cog in the Jayhawks’ recruiting of the state of Texas, where Beck formerly was a high school coach.

I know he didn't get drafted, but has anyone heard if he got signed as a free agent??  He is a bit smallish for DT at the next level, but you figure someone will give him a look.

I'm ready for another exciting Jayhawk football season. I think we have a pretty good chance of winning the Big 12 title this year. Any predictions on how well KU will do this season?

First off let me say that I am in no way a USF fan. I actually don't like them at all. But here in FL people are starting to talk about the early season match up with Kansas. Obviously living in FL the views are heavily slanted. What do the Kansas fans think? Is this even an exciting game for you?
