STARS OF 2008:

WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos -- He led Iowa in receptions (38) and receiving yards (482) and ranked 10th in the Big Ten in all-purpose yards (98.1 per game) as a redshirt freshman. DJK set career highs with eight grabs for 119 yards in a win at Northwestern.

DT Mitch King -- He earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from the league's coaches after registering 58 tackles, a team-leading 14.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He forced one fumble and broke up seven passes. The 6-3, 265-pound senior has started 16 straight games and 31 during his career.

FS Brent Greenwood -- The former walk-on was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team by The Sporting News and ranked 10th in the conference in pass breakups. He made the defensive play of the year for Iowa with a game-saving interception at the goal line to seal a 10-6 victory over then-No. 18 Illinois.

TOP NEWCOMERS

RB Nate Guillory -- Ranked No. 44 on the JUCO Top 100 by Rivals.com, he chose the Hawkeyes over Kansas State and North Carolina. He carried 325 times for 2,644 yards and 28 TDs in two seasons at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, earning honorable mention All-American recognition both years.

RB Shonn Greene -- The 5-11, 225-pound junior returns to Iowa after spending 2007 at Kirkwood (Iowa) College working on his academics. He rushed for 205 yards for the Hawkeyes in 2006 and had a 116-yard day against Ball State as a true freshman in 2005. He'll compete with Guillory and Jevon Pugh to replace the departed duo of Albert Young and Damian Sims.

CB Amari Spievey -- Another player who left Iowa last summer to get his grades up at Iowa Central Community College, Spievey redshirted for the Hawkeyes in 2006. He had seven interceptions and returned two for scores last season and could be the playmaker Iowa needs to replace Charles Godfrey and Adam Shada.

DE Riley Reiff -- At 6-6, 250 pounds, he has the size and skills to help fill the void of losing Kenny Iwebema and Bryan Mattison. He was the South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and finished his career with 261 tackles, 23 sacks and eight interceptions. He was also a three-time state champion wrestler with a career record of 121-1.

ROSTER REPORT

--Starting receiver James Cleveland and reserve quarterback Arvell Nelson were booted from the team on March 6 following their arrests on drug possession charges. Cleveland ranked second on the team with 36 catches for 464 yards as a freshman in 2007. Nelson saw limited duty as backup to Jake Christensen. Thirteen Iowa players have been arrested since April 2007.

--Sophomore guard Bryan Bulaga (shoulder) and senior tackle Dace Richardson (knee) are expected to miss spring practice while recovering from surgeries. Bulaga (6-6, 290) started Iowa's last five games as a true freshman in 2007, while assorted injuries limited Richardson (6-6, 305) to just three games.

Our 2nd 2009 recruit just signed - David Barrent, 6-8, 290lb 4-start offensive lineman out of WDM Valley. Sounds like he's a good student (majoring in engineering) and had some pretty good schools offering him like Nebraska and MSU. Good start to the next incoming class, Ferentz!

Hey just a curious buckeye fan here wanting to know more about the teams around the big ten. I am hoping for the big ten to re-establish itself as a true power. While I dont buy the crap that the big ten is weak I do know ive seen better days of football for our conference. I have read things saying that PSU, illinois, wisky, and MSU are bringing back pretty good teams and I know OSU is as well, a ...(more)

Why the hell do we keep getting posts from sportsline about the clones on the hawks main page?  Hey, it's a nice gesture, but if I want to read about the thorn in our side every year I would visit their homepage.

I've been impressed with what I've read so far.

Very fast, and strong.

Carolina will put him at FS.

What do you think I should expect from him?

What's his NFL potential?

I saw a note, can't recall where, but it said Iowa has a streak of 31 straight years with a player drafted.  Nice stat...probably not the longest streak, but I think that shows that the Hawkeyes always produce NFL players.

I don't know why this story gets me hopeful for next year, but I'd almost rather roll the dice w/Stanzi than to take my chances with the proven (in)ability of Jake. Sounds like Jake is not the certain #1.

Iowa City, Ia. - To say Iowa has a big-time quarterback controversy is a stretch.

Quarterback dilemma better explains a Jake Chri ...(more)

So, now that basketball is over, we can again begin concentrating on college football.  With that in mind, what do you see as some realistic predictions for next season?  What are the concerns heading into the season?

(POLL) Look I'm a Alabama fan and I live here in Iowa , I remeber Hayden Fry and I know (IE Nick Saban) a good coach can turn a team around , I also Iowa hasn't won squat in a long time and if memory is right never a national title . So should Iowa fire Coach Ferentz who seems to have peaked here and has no shot at winnig a national title in the next five seasons ? Do you actually not care about anything ...(more)

Does anyone else out there have Dish Network?  I was less than thrilled recently when I tried to tune into the B10 Network and it was gone from my channel list.  I subscribe to teh top 200 and when I called Dish they told me it was a regional network much like Fox Sports and since I have Fox Midwest, I would not be getting B10 network...

So much for seeing Iowa football m ...(more)
