Arizona State is not sticking with the status quo -- not hardly.

The Sun Devils will have a drastically different look for the 2008 season despite finishing 10-3 last year and tying for first in the Pac-10 standings.

Why change what obviously worked? Simple. Arizona State is trying to be even better, and one way is to spread the field out more offensively and start sending the proverbial kitchen sink at opponents while on defense.

"We were pretty vanilla on offense last year," ASU quarterback Rudy Carpenter said. "You could tell what we would be doing much of the time. I think to have more things and not be so generic will help us out, getting guys open and keeping defense honest."

Arizona State's offense was good enough to average 400 yards and 32 points per game, with Carpenter the catalyst.

More four- and five-receiver sets and tailback screens have been added to the offense.

Defensively, the Sun Devils are going to be more aggressive, which means blitzes from a variety of places, one time from the safety, another the corner.

ASU saw teams showing tendencies against them late in the season, when they lost three of the final five games after starting 8-0.

"Teams aren't going to know where we are coming from," ASU safety Rodney Cox told the East Valley Tribune.

ASU was a surprise a year ago. The Sun Devils won't be a shock to anybody this time around, except they might be even better. However, four of the five starting offensive linemen are gone, and big shoes need to be filled in the secondary.

Change can be good. ASU is hoping for change to make it even better.

Here is a message an ASU alum posted on another board.  Please tell me he is exaggerating.

Just announced today_ G. Robinson from Hamilton High School has committed to ASU. He plans on palying receiver. He is an exceptional athlete and hopefully he can be starting along w/ McGaha next year. Too bad for the EHW of EHH. He de-committed from their earlier in the recruiting process. Go ASU, nice pick up!!!!!

How's it goin Sun Devils?  I'm sure you are already looking forward to this upcoming season (I know I am).  Just wanted to say how excited I am for the UGA vs. ASU game, I really think it is going to be a good game.  Other than the losses to USC and Texas, y'all looked pretty tough last season.  What do y'all think?  Of course, I gotta pick my Dawgs!  ...(more)

My friends and I have become obsessed with this new online game.  Judging from the names (Todd Heap, Zach Miller, T. Suggs) of players created, there are many other ASU diehards, such as myself, on this game too.  Check it out, it's a blast.

Why do you guys still even play football? You will never win Pac10. Its sad i no that you think you will beat us every year just to lose again. Pac10 will forever be owned by us. Why even come play us?

I'm trying to get some other opinions on the devil's season this upcoming year.  Last season we went 10-3 (including the Holiday Bowl), but to be completely honest we didn't really beat a top team, we won the games we were supposed to and didn't really show up in a big game (if you only take team standings and don't factor in the rivalry game), to be honest none of them ...(more)
