Pioneers report: Getting inside
After finishing 4-25 in 2006-07, Denver entered the 2007-08 season with seven first-year players and a new coach and low outside expectations. The Pioneers spent all season defying those expectations and their lack of depth and experience. In the process, they also overcame the loss of their two leading scorers during the season and still remained competitive on their way to a record of 11-19, 7-11 in the Sun Belt. They maintained a spot in the Sun Belt West race until the final two weeks of the season when their shortcomings finally caught up with them, but not until they had established themselves as a tough team to beat, especially at home. With former Princeton coach Joe Scott installing the Princeton offense, the Pioneers often gave their opponents fits and finished 9-3 at home. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, their success didn't transfer to the road, where they finished 0-16. Scott returns five of the six players who saw most of the playing time down the stretch but still has lot of work to do to build the roster and must find an immediate replacement for senior center Adam Tanner.
