EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) Ky Anslinger's basket with one second remaining lifted Evansville to a 63-61 victory over Creighton in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams Wednesday night.
Creighton (8-3, 0-1) led by five points, 57-52, on a basket by Nate Funk with 4:39 remaining, but Evansville (7-2, 1-0) scored six straight points on a basket by Lucious Wagner, two free throws by Matt Webster and a tip-in by Bradley Strickland to go ahead 58-57 with 2:19 remaining and setting up a seesaw finish.
Funk made two free throws for Creighton with 1:25 left, Webster made a basket with 26 seconds left for the host Purple Aces, and Creighton's Jeffrey Day made two free throws to give the Blue Jays a 61-60 lead with eight seconds left.
With three second left, Evansville's Andre Burton made the first of two free throws to tie the game. His second shot missed, but Evansville rebounded, setting up the game winner by Anslinger.
Burton and Wagner led Evansville with 13 points each, and Webster and Strickland contributed 12 each.
Funk and Johnny Mathies had 12 points each to lead nine Blue Jay scorers.
