Trinity won 14-1 and 11-1 to end the season at 34-0. The Bantams broke the mark held by Johns Hopkins, which won 33 games to start the 2004 season.
Division II Savannah State holds the all-time record, winning 46 in a row to start the 2000 season. Texas had a 34-game streak to start the 1977 season.
If the Bantams go undefeated in the playoffs, they will become the first team ever to win a national championship without a loss.
Trinity will play host to its conference tournament May 9-11 in Hartford. The NCAA regional championships will be held in Harwich, Mass., from May 14-18.
The Bantams lost in the NCAA regionals a year ago, finishing that season 30-8.
