West Virginia one of those teams I trust so often that I just know it will eventually let me down. I was burned by the Iowa State loss and avoided as much against Oklahoma State by taking the Pokes, but I’m in a quandary here after seeing Oklahoma go out and allow Kansas to score 40 – KANSAS. 40. – last week. There will not be much defense played in this game, but can the Sooners at least get the stop they will need late to hold off the Mountaineers? If this was the exact same spread in Norman, Oklahoma, this would be a no-brainer. It is for that reason that I’m rolling with OU and attempting to put the game’s location out of mind. If WVU is giving up 45 to Oklahoma State and 42 to Texas, Oklahoma should put up 50-plus tonight.
Grab the value on the Sooners as slight road favorites in a battle of top teams.
Yes, that's right, I think Oklahoma will be sitting home watching West Virginia and Texas play for the Big 12 Championship. The Sooners have been inconsistent all season with a 4-7 ATS record and a defense that allows 30.7 points per game. West Virginia at home gets the straight-up victory.
West Virginia joined the Big 12 during the 2012 season and it's been dominated by Oklahoma the entire time. The Sooners have won all six meetings between the two as conference foes, including winning each of the last two games by 28 points. I don't think the Sooners blow the Eers out this time around due to their defense, but WVU won't get enough stops on defense to stay close enough.
West Virginia might be down, but it's not out. Mountaineers quarterback Will Grier still has plenty to play for in his final year, and can still cap it off with the program's first Big 12 title. Against a defense as porous as Oklahoma, he'll lead his team to a berth in the Big 12 Championship and bring them one step closer to to a title. In a game like this, it comes down to one simple question -- which defense do you trust more in the red zone? West Virginia is next-to-last in the Big 12 in opponent red zone touchdown percentage at 64.71 percent, but Oklahoma is last at 86.49 percent.
