I'm guilty of underestimating LSU this season, but I think they're being overvalued here. Defensively, Mississippi State has proven to be better than LSU in a number of key areas this season, including sack rate, tackles for loss, and third-down defense. This tells me that LSU will have trouble scoring consistently, and the Bulldogs should be able to keep this one pretty close.
Don't let the 36 points LSU put up by itself last week against Georgia fool you ... the Tigers are still an old school team that wants to get into a fist fight in a phone booth, not a track meet. LSU's defense will shut down the Bulldogs running game and force quarterback Nick Fitzgerald to win with his arm. He can't do that against LSU's defense. As a result, the Tigers won't take any chances on offense. This game will be a punt-fest with LSU coming out on top.
The Bulldogs bounced back from consecutive losses to Kentucky and Florida in which they scored 13 combined points with a dominant showing in a 23-9 home upset of Auburn. They will be coming off a bye to face LSU in a potential letdown spot for the Tigers following their huge upset of Georgia last week. The Bulldogs rolled to a 37-7 upset of LSU last year in which they hammered out 285 rushing yards. It's unlikely they will duplicate this performance in a difficult road environment, but they've proven to be a difficult matchup for LSU. Take the points.
