UCLA freshman QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is likely to start Friday night with Wilton Speight (knee) still questionable. Chip Kelly's offense is going to start clicking soon, but not this week at Boulder, or at least enough to get the cover. The Buffs' offense is already clicking, averaging 41 ppg with junior QB Steven Montez playing at a high level. Colorado gets the cover.
UCLA is off to an awful start in the Chip Kelly Era, and surprisingly, it's the offense that's to blame more than anything. The Bruins rank 111th nationally with 0.246 points per play, and I don't think it's capable of doing enough to get this game over the total.
First-year UCLA coach Chip Kelly might be relieved to see Colorado on the schedule; although, he wold probably prefer a junior college opponent. While at Oregon, Kelly's teams pounded the Buffaloes by a combined 99 points in back-to-back seasons. The winless Bruins are certainly no Ducks, what with true freshmen starting their previous game at quarterback, tailback and center. The bye week granted Kelly extra practice time to bring the kiddie roster up to speed. It helps that Colorado has covered in only one of its last seven home dates.
