CACTUS BOWL (Phoenix) -- A yellow light of caution is flashing on this game until reports are confirmed that UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen will sit out due to a concussion. Rosen would be unwise to risk his sky-high draft prospects by playing in this lower-level bowl game. The Bruins also have a lame-duck coaching staff with sub Jedd Fisch filling in before Chip Kelly takes over. Rosen might have chewed up the Wildcats' defense, which allowed more passing yards than everybody but one team. But Kansas State did hold seven Big 12 opponents below their scoring average. UCLA's vulnerability is its rush defense, which surrendered more yards than all but one other school. The pendulum will swing K-State's way if Rosen is a spectator.
CACTUS BOWL (Phoenix) -- Not only is Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen likely jumping early for the NFL draft, he will reportedly sit out the Cactus Bowl. With that in mind, this seems like a perfect spot for a Bruin debacle. Cornerback D.J. Reed will be back for the Wildcats, quarterback Alex Delton will be available and redshirt freshman signal-caller Skylar Thompson helped Bill Snyder's crew win two of their last three -- including a win at Oklahoma State.
CACTUS BOWL (Phoenix) -- Not even Chip Kelly could improve UCLA's defense enough to keep this one close. The Bruins came up just short against USC but scored a huge 30-27 victory over Cal to become bowl-eligible. The Bruins allowed 40 or more points to six of their 12 opponents. Kansas State lost its starting quarterback Jesse Ertz to a knee injury, and backup QB Skylar Thompson went out and knocked off two ranked teams in his last two starts -- Oklahoma State, 45-40 and Iowa State, 20-19. I have Kansas State ranked higher offensively and by a lot on defense over UCLA. How is this line only -2? I have Kansas State by seven.
