Miami's resurgence has been a great story, but it looks as though a 10-0 start that was punctuated with a blowout of Notre Dame will be the pinnacle. The Hurricanes appeared fatigued in a double-digit loss to five-win Pittsburgh and they are outmatched Saturday in the ACC title game against Clemson. The Hurricanes have some playmakers banged up, led by leading receiver Ahmmon Richards, who is out injured. Clemson is No. 6 in the country in yards allowed and it's hard to see Miami doing enough on offense to keep this one close. Clemson blows it open late.
This banged-up Miami squad won't be able to hang with Clemson, which has found its stride since a midseason stumble. With the Hurricanes' top two receivers out, the onus will be on Travis Homer and the running game to set the tone -- and it will come out flat. Miami won't score double digits. Clemson, led by quarterback Kelly Bryant, will continue to prove it's back in a big way and earn a spot in its third consecutive College Football Playoff with ease. Pick the Tigers.
With so much on the line, you can expect Miami to be ready to compete at a high level -- a level the Hurricanes haven't showcased all season, even in marquee wins. Look for Clemson's comfort of knowing it has all but secured a playoff spot to come into play from an ATS standpoint. Grab Miami.
The biggest concern about the Hurricanes all season long, despite their winning, has been the passing game. The Panthers exposed that last week and now they face one of the best defenses in the country.
Mark Richt went 3-1 versus Clemson while he was at Georgia, and I like his 'Canes to be very competitive in the ACC Championship Game. Miami has forced 29 turnovers, third-most in the nation, and likely will get a couple more Saturday. Clemson is a deserving No. 1 and should be favored, but not by this much. The Hurricanes are covering 62 percent of my simulations. Take the points.
