Last week, BYU engaged in its latest wild, prime-time affair as it rallied to beat Mississippi State 28-21 in double overtime after the Bulldogs outplayed the Cougars most of the way. On Thursday, BYU travels to face a Boise State team coming off a scare from an underrated Colorado State club in a 28-23 win. This is a revenge spot for the Broncos after they controlled most of the game last year before BYU rallied late. Boise State’s solid run defense should limit BYU’s offense, and I think the Broncos get a needed strong performance against a quality opponent.
Boise State is going to have itself a battle against BYU. While I don't want to take the points, I do see the Broncos' underrated defense playing well. They've won three straight and five of their seven games have stayed Under the total. What we have here with the total is a number more indicative of each team's offensive numbers than the defense. That's been the case for a while with Boise State's totals and they've stayed Under the total in nine of their last 10 home games. Look for a close, low-scoring game.
BYU has a habit of being involved in wild, close games, as all of it contests except one this season have been decided by seven points or fewer. My simulations suggest the Cougars are good bet to do so again as a touchdown underdog against a powerful Boise State team. However, the Broncos might be a bit overrated in the market as they struggled to get past mediocre Colorado State last week. The Cougars have the physicality to match the Broncos, and the touchdown spot is a strong position on this solid team.
