Both clubs are in rebuilding modes of sorts, as the Falcons bring on a new head coach and the Buckeyes break in a mostly inexperienced club to replace what they lost in a record-setting draft in which they had five players taken in the top 20 selections. However, the clubs have vastly different expectations. It seems unlikely Bowling Green will repeat as MAC champion as it returns few starters and former coach Dino Babers left for the top job at Syracuse. He was replaced by Mike Jinks, who was coaching high school football as recently as four years ago. Conversely, Ohio State is projected to contend for both the Big 10 and national titles, a testament to the precedent for success set by coach Urban Meyer and the program’s history of fielding blue-chip talent. I think this is an ideal Week 1 matchup for the Buckeyes, as dual-threat J.T. Barrett will break in a set of newcomers against a defense unlikely to provide much in the way of resistance. I think his team will find the end zone early and often, and I’d be stunned if the Falcons did enough to cover this number.
