CBS SPORTS TO AIR NCAA WINTER SEASONAL SHOW ON SATURDAY, MAY 5
INDIANAPOLIS -- For the fifth consecutive year, all 88 NCAA championships will receive television exposure, including 16 winter championships to be featured in a one-hour special.
“CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA” will air at 1 p.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. Pacific Saturday, May 5, on CBS Sports. Highlights and stories from fencing, ice hockey, indoor track & field, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving and wrestling will be featured in the program.
Some of the student-athlete stories to be featured in the program include:
- Maddy Outman, a junior from Williams College provides an extremely inspirational story. She participated in NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships as she overcame drug, alcohol and sexual abuse to participate in the long jump, 55-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay helping Williams win its first national championship in indoor or outdoor track and field.
- Marcus LeVesseur, a senior from Augsburg College in Minneapolis capped off a brilliant NCAA Division III wrestling career by winning the 165-pound weight class. He finished his career undefeated, 155-0. LeVesseur is only the second collegiate wrestler to finish his career unbeaten and untied (Cael Sanderson, Iowa State, 1998-2002).
- The Plattsburgh State University of New York women’s ice hockey team avenged last year’s loss in the NCAA Division III final to Middlebury College. The Cardinals ended the season 27-0-2, becoming the first team in women’s collegiate hockey history (all-divisions) to go undefeated.
- John and Robert Dohring, junior twins from Occidental College achieved 1-2 twin finishes in the one and three meter diving finals at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
- Katelin Rains, a sophomore from Minnesota State University, Mankato shattered the pole vault record going over 14 feet at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Through the NCAA-CBS 11-year bundled rights agreement, CBS Sports has aired 13 seasonal shows from the three NCAA sports seasons (fall, winter, spring) over the last five years. This Saturday’s show is the 14th edition. The seasonal shows typically feature highlights and unique NCAA student-athlete stories from the Division II and III championships.
CBS Sports’ Seth Davis will serve as the host of “CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA.” This is second seasonal show that Davis will host as he hosted the show last spring. He has served as contributor for CBS Sports' coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship for the past four years. Davis joined CBS Sports in 2003 as a contributor for AT THE HALF, the network's college basketball halftime show. For the second consecutive year, the winter highlight show (CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA) was produced by Joseph E. Zappulla. Steve McKee, Jason Ross and Bruce Schein served as feature producers.
